Disclaimer: I don't own lord of the rings. Honestly. IfI did then I would be one very happy author.
The waves screamed onto the shore, white tears falling onto the heaving rocks. Gulls roared overhead as the celestial moon turned her gaze towards the earth. The cold beach was deserted save for one.
Eowyn stumbled over the rocks, once agile limbs now heavy with age. Pushing the once-golden, now silver hair from her face she gazed at the lonely horizon with fading sight.
She had waited. Everyday she used to run down to the beach and hope that somehow he would return. Everyday Eowyn would be disappointed at the empty shores. So she would dream instead.
She would see the boat pull into the natural harbour. He would leap out, love shining from his face. She would be waiting for him, older but still the same inside. They would then stay forever until the end of time.
But that was all they ever were. Dreams. She knew as well as he that once an elf departed for the grey havens they never returned. All she had left was the memories.
Since the day they parted she had spent the years wandering the forests of her love, revelling in the comforting presence of the trees as they aged with her. They comforted her, they also felt her loss.
Eowyn smiled bitterly to herself. She would never again walk through those forests. She would join her love in the grey havens. Knelling in prayer to the moon, she shivered as the raven-black water welcomed her in it's embrace.
Drawing a long blade from her robe, she let the waves wash it briefly. It was a gift from her love. Holding it as he taught her she took a deep breath and quickly plunged it into the waiting flesh. Touching the crimson wound as it spread through the water, she lay back as the darkness took her for the last time.
An elf found her. The cold, damp corpse, still holding a dagger in the ghostly hands. The elves had called her their "lost princess." Without her prince she was lost.
They mourned her loss and rejoiced in her death. For now their lost princess had returned to the grey havens.
Where, they were sure, prince Legolas would be waiting.
Legolas sat on the beach. His heart was ripped away from him. It lay across the sea with his love, taunting him with the knowledge of her body withering away.
Standing up he turned to almost crash into Frodo. The hobbit jumped back with a startled look on his face.
"Legolas?" he started unsurely. "Lady Galadriel had asked me to fetch you. An unknown boat has been seen and the elders request your presence."
The elf looked down to his feet. It was madness to have even come here. The other elves may have found this to be paradise but there could be no peace for him here.
The elf strode off towards the harbour, the hobbit keeping up a running commentary on how the boat was sighted a few hours ago. As they reached the harbour Legolas spared a passing glance for the boat. He stopped, his heart thundering in his chest as the maiden was helped out of the boat by Haldir.
The golden hair glittered in the sunlight. Blue eyes glanced at the assembled crowds.
Comprehension dawned on both as the world narrowed till only the two were in it. They held each other tightly as Legolas Greenleaf and Eowyn had found each other once again.
