Disclaimer: I don't own CSI, Mia, or Greg (though owning Greg would be nice...heh). The plot is an original story from the depths of my twisted mind...
Author's Note: Yay, I'm the first Greg/Mia story. Whoo hoo! This story is inspired by episode 'Harvest'
The Perfect Surprise

It had been another typical day for the crime lab's latest lab technician Mia. Members of the team dropped off samples of blood, spit, and various other things for her to process. Though, today wasn't all that normal. It was Mia's birthday. She didn't always like to draw attention to herself by telling everyone when her birthday was, but she was sure that most of the crime lab knew about it. Nick had stopped by earlier to say a quick 'happy birthday,' but for some reason, Mia felt forgotten. That's when Greg showed up.

Mia didn't notice he was there until she heard him singing "Happy Birthday." She looked up at the sound of his voice. A small smile spread across her face.

"Hey, Greg," she greeted.

"Hey. Are you doing anything important right now?" he asked.

"No. Why?"

"I have something I want to give you. Follow me," he explained.

Mia gave him a puzzled look, but followed anyways. He was leading her to the break room. Before they entered, he stopped and turned to face her.

"How was your special day?" he asked.

"It was just like any other day. Nothing real 'special.' Sometimes it would be nice not to work on my birthday, but I love working here, so I don't mind that much."

"Oh. Well, I have something that might cheer you up."

With that, he made her close her eyes and he led her to a table in the break room. He made sure that everything was ready and told her to open her eyes. Mia's eyes widened a bit and her jaw dropped slightly. There, sitting on the table, were two cupcakes with lit candles. Greg smiled at Mia's happy reaction.

"Greg, you shouldn't have," she said. But she was glad he did.

"Well, I couldn't forget to get you something on your birthday. I wasn't sure if you liked chocolate or vanilla, so I gave you one of each," he replied.

"Both are fine."

Greg smiled again.

"Now, I know you don't like eating birthday cake at other people's birthdays, but just think of this as you're eating your own DNA," he explained.

Mia laughed and remembered their conversation on one of her first days at the crime lab.

"Make a wish," Greg whispered.

He watched as Mia tucked some of her hair that wasn't already in a ponytail behind her ear and blow out the candles.

"Would you like one?" she offered.

"No thanks, you got your spit all over it," Greg joked.

They both laughed at the joke for a while until Mia thanked him again.

"You're so sweet, Greg. Thank you so much," she said before kissing him on the cheek. "This was the perfect surprise."
