The man and Eve had conjugal relations. Eve conceived and gave birth to Cain. She loved Cain and thought of him as a gift from G-d. Eve and husband "got it on again", and nine months later, Abel came along. Eve did not take a liking to Abel in the same way that she did to Cain. Abel grew up to be a shepherd because Abel had a particular fondness for barnyard animals. Cain grew up to be a farmer.

Over time, Cain brought fruits as an offering to the Lord. Abel brought his best animals to the Lord. He was sad to see them go. G-d liked Abel, but did not pay attention to Cain. G-d liked barnyard animals, plus Abel gave his best sheep out of the goodness of his heart. But Cain's fruits and nuts were second rate.

Cain was sad. His brother and those darn barnyard animals were winning G-d's favor. He began to cry. G-d called down to Cain:

"Little boy, why are you sad?
Did those barnyard animals make you mad?
If you do everything well,
You will manage to stay out of hell.
But if you don't do as I say,
You'll be hitchhiking on life's highway!
Anger management is the way to be,
Just leave those barnyard animals to me!"

So Cain went out to the field to see his brother Abel. He killed him.

G-d saw Cain murder his brother. But to trick Cain, G-d pretended that he did not know the true fate of Abel and the barnyard animals. So he said to Cain, "Where is Abel?" Cain replied, "How should I know?! I am not my brother's murderer.er, keeper!"

G-d got very angry. "Gr..I know that you spilled your brother's blood! You shall be cursed! You will no longer be a great farmer and you will wander the earth aimlessly."

Cain said that his punishment was way too harsh. G-d smacked him across the forehead and left a huge bruise in the shape of a barnyard animal. He vowed that if anyone killed Cain, they would be the subject of a particularly large vengeance.
