Chapter 1

It was early afternoon, the sun shining lazily through the leaves overhead. Tamarin and Kinkajou were wandering around the Rainforest floor, they had just finished there sun time and had decided to go for a stroll.

"Hey Tamarin, way don't we fly a bit?" Kinkajou suggested.

"That sounds fun." Tamarin replied. They climbed up a large tree nearby, and took off, gliding gracefully through the densely packed forest.

After they had flown awhile, Kinkajou grabbed a branch with her tail and swung around it a couple of times before Tamarin landed on the branch and through her off her swing, sending her flying into the underbrush below.

"Heeelllppp!" Kinkajou yelled in panic.

"Kinkajou!" Tamarin cried as she dove after her. Kinkajou struggled to right herself as she fell hitting several branches and vines on the way down. She landed with a thump and let out a sharp cry of pain as her wing was crushed under her. Tamarin landed nearby and rushed over to Kinkajou.

"Are you ok?" Tamarin asked her friend in a worried voice.

"I think my wing is broken." Kinkajou moaned as she struggled to stand, her left wing laying limp at her side.

"You stay here, I'll go get help." Tamarin told her. "I'll be back soon." She then flew away, using her mental map of the rainforest to guide her.

Kinkajou looked around and noticed something in the bushes, it looked like a blackberry. She licked her lips, she loved blackberrys. She walked over her wing dragging painfully behind her. when she reached the Bush she pushed the leaves aside with her talon, and gasped. She reached out her talon and rested it on the blackberry. It was huge, as big as Tamarin.

She licked her lips again, it looked SO good.

"I should wait." She told herself. "Tamarin will want some." Her eyes went back to the blackberry, the sun was shining off its surface, making it look even juicer.

"What's taking her so long?" Kinkajou muttered. She knew since Tamarin was blind it would take her a while to get to the village and back, and they where also quite far away.

"Maybe just one bite, no! I should wait for Tamarin." She flip-flopped like that for a while until she had an idea.

"You know, I could probably pull one of those sections off and eat that, then there would still be plenty left. I'll do that." She walked over and carefully placed her talons around one of the smaller sections and pulled. In the process she accidentally tore some of the skin on the section and juice ran down her claws. She bit into it.

"This is the best blackberry I've ever had! I can't wait to show Tamarin!" She smiled in delight.

"Kinkajou!" Tamarin cried as she landed next to her. "I'm so sorry it took me so long to get back! I got kind of lost but luckily I bumped into Mangrove and Orchid on a fruit gathering patrol and they agreed to help you get to the healer, way are you covered in juice? " She reached out her talon and rested it on her shoulder. She sniffed the juice on it.

"I think I know why." Mangrove said reveling the blackberry. "There blackberrys, and there as big as you Tamarin. And there's more." He pulled aside another bush to reveal not just one, but six of the huge blackberrys.

"Wow." Orchid breathed.
