Summary: Where a beast of legend takes a moment to survey the world around it.

The waves parted like curtains at an evening performance for the angelic creature, its sharp cry rising to the cloudy heavens high above. The night was as dark and deep as the sea, as if the surface was a foamy mirror—although it wasn't clear whether the sky or the ocean deep was the reflection. The beast looked down at its rippling twin, registering the striking features that the other animals of the deep had either praised or cowered from. The humans had written ballads about this face, this sleek body fit for the harshness of the ocean. A cloaked moon left only a soft glow that danced across the pale guardian of the sea, while shadows stretched across its beak like a mask to hide half of its face. Whiter than the purest snow and darker than the deepest waters, the massive feathered dragon lifted its long neck to examine its surroundings.

The ocean was very quiet this far from shore, with only the whispering waves breaking the muted scene. Humans didn't journey out in their rickety boats this late or this distance, leaving the bulk of the wet territory to the sea creatures who rightfully owned it—and they were resting within the murky depths this time of night. The chinchou and lanturn, finneon and lumineon—all of the underwater stars had already returned to their homes below for rest. The waters that had once danced with glimmering life were now as dark as the forgotten side of the moon, thrashing and churning in the motions of a restless sleep. Even with heightened senses, the guardian found no sign that it shared the waves with another.

There were other creatures such as this guardian within the sea. Large and foreboding, small and peaceful—the waves were not particular in what they carried into humankind's legends. For the time being, however, it appeared this one was at the top of the food chain.

It was rare for a pokemon to make its way to the surface without following prey this late in the evening, but this beast had no use for hunting tonight. The mood was too peaceful to be broken by the struggles of life and death; a voyage across the waters without destination was in the stars. Those bright lights glittered across the dark canvas of the night sky. They twinkled teasingly, winking at their doppelgangers with good humor. They were small even though they were many—it was a gentle light they cast, unable to surpass the moon in its brilliance but more than happy to coat the sky with glints of forbidden gems.

Those were not the only lights to brighten the night, as the guardian's vision could look across the vast waters and see the promise of land. Far off in the distance, the feathered creature could make out the signs of human life: Civilizations built upon harsh concrete, shining brightly to defy the night. It spoke of advancement, progress—but Lugia much preferred the steady rhythm of the ocean.
