Summary: A short one-shot where I attempt to write out Michelangelo's darker emotions. This was written during a very boring college class.

Disclaimer: I don't own Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Mirage does.

Michelangelo looked down at his reflection in the putrid waters of the sewer. He began to smile but stopped short when the current turned his smile into a grimace. Irrational guilt hummed in his veins at the idea that he had denied a smile to his watery doppelganger. Words burst from his throat in a sudden urge to explain himself to his reflection; to explain his sudden and uncharacteristic lack of mirth.

"I had a dream last night," he whispered in a small, thoughtful voice, "I dreamt that I was human."

"It was nice being a human… peaceful really." His voice wavered slightly, "I was walking down the street and—" He paused as his eyes filled with reluctant wonder, "—and everyone kept smiling at me, like I was one of them and not just some mutant freak."

The Michelangelo in the water looked so lost that he felt reassurances flow from his mouth without volition. "It's ok, though, really! I love being a turtle. I do. I love it. I love being a turtle! I love being a—" He stopped talking, unable to continue his rant, the bitter taste of his lies too great to bear.
