I had this posted up before, I think… but I took it down with the rest of my stories. So here it is again. Even though I have placed this in the Animanga section, this is based off of the book because it's just that much cooler, and Howl's Moving Castle doesn't have its own section in the Book category, which makes me angry.
Disclaimer: I do not own Howl's Moving Castle or any of its characters.
Sound of a Heart
Sophie saw Miss Angorian grabbed the small heart away from Calcifer's protective flames. And with a small smirk, Miss Angorian closed her hand over the beating organ, clutching onto it tighter and tighter. Sophie could do nothing but watch even though she could hear Howl's broken screams.
A little more force and the heart was no more.
And Howl was no more.
Sophie woke up, sweat visibly glistering on her face and she sat up with a gasp. She looked around, swallowed down the salty taste in her mouth, feeling very much like she was about to throw up. She slapped a hand against her cheek and thought, Oh my. What a nightmare.
Howl groaned, unhappy that his personal warmth had once again escaped him and he blinked his tired eyes. "My dear Sophie," he moaned. "Stop being such a cranky witch and come back and sleep." He tried to pull her down back onto the bed but could tell that he had underestimated his strength—or really, overestimated his own. "Sophia!" he whined.
Any other time, Sophie would have spanked him or something but after her nightmare, she couldn't even bring herself to snap at him. She laid back down onto her bed, resting her head on his chest.
Ba-dum.
Ba-dum.
"Oh Howl," Sophie breathed. "I can hear your heart."
