A/N: this is another story I found in my DOCs today and just had to reboot it.
Here we go again.
Ilana always loved the music she received from her choir instructors back home on Galaluna. They had always shared Ilana's passion for music, choosing uplifting songs for their princess to sing whenever she or her people needed encouragement.
She missed them, and the music of home, but she had come to find that her new, Earth instructor was very similar to the ones she missed. He seemed to share her love and passion for songs, and almost always knew which ones she would adore. Music sessions never failed to lift up her spirits and make her feel closer to her beloved home and today was no exception.
"Lance, come sit with me!" The princess called from her station at the schools piano.
"I just came to drop off your bag..." Lance hummed, his car keys jingling softly between his fingers. "I still have errands to run."
"It'll be quick! I promise. This song even has a guitar part that you could play!" Ilana went on. "Please?"
"... Fine." Tossing his keys back into his pocket, Lance took a seat next to the bouncing blonde.
Her bright smile almost overshown the pleased look she had in her eyes. It was al,post as if she knew he would love it already, and she kept that face as she opened the CD case and put the disk in.
"Oh, we're listening to it on CD?" Lance asked, eyes glancing down at the unused piano for a moment.
Ilana didn't respond, not wanting to miss her que. If she would have replied, she would tell him that while she knew the lyrics to this song by heart, the musical portion was almost always played by her teacher. Since he wasn't here just yet, she decided early to just settle for pre-recorded music instead.
"When I am down and oh my soul so weary." The voice on the CD began, it's voice low and soft, almost fragile sounding.
"When troubles come and my heart burdened be." Ilana sang back, as if preforming in a duet with the CD, her voice sounding just as fragile and slightly off key, causing Lance to wince.
"Then im am still and wait here in the silence until you come and sit a while with me."
Most of the songs Ilana played from school, Lance had a certain dislike for. Not only not being one for classical music, but also disliking how far away the melodies made him feel from home. This song however, he found was quite nice, but it was also familiar to him. Chill bumps ran along his arm, as his mind briefly thought back to their home.
"You raise me up so I can stand on mountains you raise me up to walk on stormy seas, I am strong when I am on your shoulders."
"You raise me up to more than I can be." The raven haired teen felt a smile form on his lips, as it reminded him of his family on Earth, and of the Titan they were capable of creating.
When the three were together and Titan was formed, it helped to raise all of their tired spirits, and even though they were fighting off a mutradi sent from a world so far away, the war it had come from almost seemed long forgotten. He felt as though he had found his purpose in life. The thing that he could wake up to and do again and again for the rest of his life without complaint. It was calming, though he knew it was just the calm before the storm, as they said.
Never the less, he always felt that with this calling and his the family he had gone and formed on his own, he could do a lot more than he could alone.
"There is no life, no life without its hunger."
"Each restless heart beats so imperfectly."
Ilana began to miss home at this part. She was reminded of her hunger for familiarity and how restless her heart would become each time she thought of her home, her planet. The music felt warm and strong, like her father's voice, or their castle. As the song had stated though, there would be no life for her there, if she had what she wanted, or at least if she had it now that was.
"But when you come and I am filled with wonder sometimes I think I glimpse eternity." She couldn't help but giggle at this line for it reminded her of Octus in a way, and also Lance for that matter.
When she first saw them as they escaped from home, she always thought of the Robot as just a robot and the Corporal as a felon, but after they arrived on earth- they both surprised her.
Octus with the way he became Newton, and the way he found a way to adapt and become- not more human, but more alive. More Galalunian in a sense. Even Lance, who proved not only to be both a hero and a leader, had proved to Ilana that he could also be family. Like the best friend, even big brother, she never got to have.
The climax of the song was reached, as the chorus played again, reminding the two teens listening of what wonderful memories and friends they both had from both their home on Earth and on Galaluna. They were memories of what they had lost and then come to find again elsewhere. It was bittersweet, but not unbearable.
"You raise me up so I can stand on mountains you raise me up to walk on stormy seas. I am strong when I am on your shoulders. You raise me up to more than I can be"
As the song ended, Ilana turned back to the CD player and let her fingers loom over the buttons. She was torn between ejecting the disk, or replay it. With a happy sigh, she quickly made up her mind and went to replay the song- but stopped when she saw Lance fiddling with his keys again.
"Oh, I'm sorry Lance, did you need to go?" She asked gently, knowing her brooding friend had only expected to hear the song once.
"Um, no. I was just wondering... If- maybe..." He paused and then smiled softly as He placed his keys back into his pocket. "You could play it again?"
