Operation M.A.S.K.

Chapter 1: Memory Lane

By Dr. John Smith

Kuki Sanban was just four years old as her mother and father walked her through the white hallways of St. Joseph's Asylum. Her young mind couldn't grasp why she was in a white hallway with people in white coats. She suddenly reached a door that read, "Visiting Area" once the doctors let them inside, she saw a man with frizzy brown hair in a straight jacket. He was sitting at a table with a game of Candyland in front of him. Kuki's mother, Genki Sanban and her father, sat down across from him. "Hello Lewis. How've you been lately?"

The man, Lewis, nodded, "I could do without the straight jacket, but can't have everything I suppose."

"Have your episodes been ok? You aren't violently screaming about..." Genki looked to the small Kuki on her lap, she leaned into Lewis and whispered, "The Big Head Killer... Have you?"

Before Lewis could answer, a big, hulking nurse spoke up, "I would refrain from asking any questions about you know who."

Genki looked back to Lewis, she got an idea, picking Kuki up to the eye line of Lewis, "Kuki, Kuki dear. Say hi to your Uncle Lewis."

Kuki looked up to Lewis in awe, he gave a small smile, "Hey kiddo... I wish we could be meeting under better circumstances. I'm really not crazy, no matter what Kani says, I just had a small mental breakdown."

"Ha!" Kani spat out, "Small mental breakdown!? You came into our house one night ranting and raving about some Big Head Killer! You nearly cause my wife to have a heart attack because you went nuts and imagined a green headed killer!"

Lewis stood up, sending the chair flying back and alerting the doctors and nurses, "He's real! The Big Head Killer is real! Kuki don't listen to him, he's real!" The nurses dragged Lewis back into his cell, as the doctors apologized. Kuki implanted the image of her struggling Uncle shouting and being dragged away into her memory.

Welcome to a new story I've been brewing in my mind for a while. I always wanted to write a Codename: Kids Next Door story, and I'm a big fan of The Mask. In the tradition of the Mask comics, this is a new person who becomes The Mask, the adopted brother of Genki Sanban; Lewis Meso. He's not Japanese like Number 3 or her family, he was adopted. He's as white as I am. I hope you enjoyed! More coming soon.
