A light snow fell with a driving northern wind. Yuki stood amidst the wall of white, his hair tossing in the air like grass in a breezy meadow.
"Darn that Kyo," he thought to himself. "He told me it wasn't supposed to snow. Well, that's what I get for listening to him."
Yuki had been covering his garden to protect it from frost when the white flakes had begun to fall. He'd been about home when the snow became so thick that he couldn't see. Instinct told him that the house wasn't far away, but the peaceful silence, save for the sound of the wind, was actually a quite calming experience compared to the everyday chaos that occurred regularly at the house and at school...well, in life as a general statement.
When the snow finally died away, Yuki saw a ghostly form looming silently about a hundred yards in front of him. It wasn't dark, though. A bright light filtering through the downy snowflakes told him that it was his house.
Again he began making his way through the snow, the soft crunch of the flakes under his feet echoing in his ears idly.
When Yuki was but inches away from the porch the shoji door flew open and Tohru bounded out.
"Oh, Yuki! I'm so glad you're back. With that unexpected storm that came up, I was worried you'd get lost!" she said excitedly.
Yuki stared at her for a silent moment. Her sudden outburst had surprised him. Then he smiled and said," You really shouldn't worry about me, Ms. Honda. I know my way around."
Then with that, he walked past her into the warmth of the house.
However, the first person he saw on entering the living area was Kyo.
"Why did you tell me it wasn't supposed to snow?" Yuki asked coldly.
"Hey! Don't blame me, blame the stupid weather guy! He said it wasn't supposed ta snow," Kyo snapped back.
"Quit shouting. Just looking at you is giving me a headache as it is."
"Oh, yeah! Just looking at you makes me sick!"
"Quit shouting, stupid cat."
"I'll shout all I want, ya damn rat!"
"Um...excuse me..."
Kyo and Yuki turned to see Tohru standing in the doorway wringing her fingers nervously. Both relaxed a little.
"Anyway, what's for supper?" Kyo asked, turning his head away from Yuki.
"Leeks," Yuki muttered under his breath as he walked toward the stairs, ignoring Kyo's outburst of disapproval. Tohru sighed saddly as she watched Yuki's retreating form. Then slowly, she turned and went back into the kitchen.
