ONE MOMENT MORE

Hold me, even though I know you're leaving

And show me all the reasons you would stay

The steady beeping of the heart monitor was the lone sound in the hospital room. Rosalie slowly traced her fingers across Emmett's chest, watching his peaceful face as he lay asleep beside her. Emmett's arms were wrapped around her waist as she lay her head on his chest, every laboured breath he took made Rosalie's heart clench in agony.

It's just enough to feel your breath on mine

To warm my soul and ease my mind

You've got to hold me and show me now

Gazing out into the setting sun, she thought back to the day that they had met—a moment she would never forget. Ever since then, she got butterflies whenever Emmett smiled at her. The memories flashed in succession. Their first date. Their first kiss. Their first dance. Their wedding. The dream house they built together.

Give me just one part of you to cling to

And keep me everywhere you are

It's just enough to steal my heart and run

And fade out with the falling sun

As Rosalie clenched at his shirt, her ring caught a ray of sunlight and shone brightly. Looking down at the band encircling her finger, she sobbed. Emmett had tried to plan that day so well, but nothing had seemed to go his way. But she remembered the moment that he'd presented the ring, how everything else had faded away and the tears had sprung to her eyes at the inscription etched into the gold.

Oh, please don't go

Let me have you just one moment more

Oh, all I need, all I want is just one moment more

You've got to hold me and keep me

"There is nothing more we can do. I'm sorry." The fateful words kept repeating themselves in her head like a grim mantra. No matter how much she had pleaded, there was nothing to be done. She rested her forehead against his chest, willing him to stay by her side a little longer.

Tell me that someday you'll be returning

And maybe, maybe I'll believe

"You are going to be okay. Please tell me you are going to be okay." She had begged over and over.

It's just enough to see a shooting star

To know you're never really far

It's just enough to see a shooting star

To know you're never really gone

With a gentle kiss on her forehead Emmett had declared, "Any time you see a falling star, think of me, cause I'll always be thinking of you."

Oh, please don't go

Let me have you just one moment more

Oh, all I need, all I want is just one moment more

"Please don't leave me." she whispered.

Oh, please don't go

Let me have you just one moment more

Oh, all I need, all I want is just one moment more

You've got to hold me and maybe I'll believe

"This can't be happening! We promised we would always be together. Why is this happening? Why!?" She sobbed again, remembering the way they had dropped to the floor in anguish, mourning the life they would never have. They had clung to each other, hoping, wishing it was all a terrible dream.

So hold me, even though I know you're leaving

As his laboured breath left his lips for the last time, she clung to his shirt with a desperate attempt for just one moment more.
