He was her best friend, her closest confidant, her necessary support until he wasn't.
She couldn't put a date on it, they had always been close, she had trusted him to stay beside her, yet now he was gone, she had been discarded for the younger more beautiful woman. She had allowed herself to be surprised and hurt at first, then she accepted that he was no different to any other, he had betrayed her as anyone else would do.
She had begun to question why she had trusted him in the first place, how could she have ignored the obvious, that eventually he would leave her, abandon her only after she had learned to trust him, once she cared enough to break over his leaving her.
The worst time came in the mess hall she was stood with him and Tom discussing the ship and the latest species that they had come across. Tom left them for a minute in order to get himself a drink, she had stood with him next to her in silence for a moment before he had moved away, leaving her alone rather than talk to her for a minute, that she decided was the time when she had finally known that their relationship was beyond saving, she knew in that moment that he no longer cared for her at all.
The promise had been broken, now she was alone.
