Pretend
Jacob was the only person Leah knew who would deny his own imprinting.
When Leah shied away from her love for Jacob, knowing she would get hurt again, Jacob just whispered, "I didn't imprint on Nessie," and kissed her.
Jacob knew that he had imprinted, everyone did. He just wouldn't admit it.
Maybe Jacob didn't want to be whole. Maybe he thought Nessie deserved someone better.
Whatever his reason was, Jacob pretended he hadn't imprinted.
Leah heard his lie every day. "I didn't imprint on Nessie." He kept denying it, hiding the pain that came from pretending.
Leah saw straight through him, just like everyone else.
Jacob kept believing his lie.
Everyone knew that Jacob was lying, but only Leah knew why.
It was for her.
