Prequel: A Request

The silence was unnerving. Not a single thing in the hall made a sound including the guard outside pacing back and forth from one end of the hall to the other.

She approached a door in the hallway and was surprised to find her hands shaking.

I'm only meeting him for my assignment. I've met him plenty of times before this...So why am I so scared? she thought.

She forced her hands to be still and took a deep breath. It would be fine. It always was except when...She shook her head and turned the doorknob and entered the room.

"Close it behind you will you? And do have a seat." asked the Grand General of Noxus, Swain. He sat in a grand chair behind an equally grand desk. A single simple chair sat in front of the desk, facing the general. His pet crow, Beatrice, observed from his shoulder, glaring at her with its beady eyes.

"Of course." replied Katarina, the Sinister Blade. She closed it tight behind her, the door making a click sound as it shut close. She approached Swain, glanced at the chair and the bird, and after a moment of hesitation, sat. She asked "You wanted me for a mission right?"

"Correct." replied Swain. "It's simple. I'd like you to assassinate this list of people and cause some..chaos." He pushed forward a single sheet of paper across the desk.

"That's my specialty." said Katarina. "These people are eas-You must be kidding me! These are some of the most prominent people in Demacia! While killing high ranking officials would be fine but this-!" She rapidly stood up with her jaw set and narrowed her eyes. "What are you up to?"

"Nothing of major importance" said Swain smoothly. "And I thought you of all people would be fine to killing Demacians regardless of rank. Or is perhaps because of...him?" He glanced at a name on the paper. It read: Garen, the Might of Demacia. He gave her a knowing glance and smirked. Beatrice cawed.

"Of course not!" exclaimed Katarina. Her face flushed and she sat back down. "Fine. I'll do it. It'll be quite a difficult task though."

If I question any more, Swain will be displeased. Ugh. Whatever. I have a bad feeling about this though.

"Possibly." said Swain. "That's why I've set a team of other Noxians to assist you there if you feel the need for help. I won't reveal their names for they're in hiding in Demacia right now but Talon and Cassiopeia could be there. Who knows?" He made a sinister grin.

She had to keep an expression of anger and shock appear on her face. How dare he use my siblings as hostages! She gritted her teeth and replied in a curt tone. "I'll be on my way soon." She then pushed the chair back, snatched the piece of paper, stood up, and walked to the door. As she moved her hand to turn the doorknob, she heard his voice call out one more time.

"And Katarina?"

She looked back, barely concealing her glare.

"Dispatch those worms." Beatrice cawed.

"I can't wait." she spat out, opened the door, and slammed it behind her. The sounds of her footsteps echoed throughout the hall along with the command for the guard in the hall to patrol faster. Her footsteps sound became silent and Swain rose from his desk and yawned. "Another day, another fate decided." Beatrice clacked her beak. He then opened the door again and looked around the empty hallway.

"Are you there?" he curiously asking the seemingly empty hallway save for the guard.

The guard walked towards him and as he did, his features seemed to change. "Aren't I always?" replied Leblanc, the Deceiver with a sly smile.

"Evaine. Shall we continue our previous...discussion?" said Swain.

"We shall. Let's go somewhere private first. Also, congrats on angering another subject." she said.

"Anger is a great tool." said Swain cryptically. Leblanc laughed and then shifted back to the guard and the pair walked down the hallway.
