Summary: What should have happened during the episode "Yesterday"
Pairing: Derek/ Meredith (duh!)
As Meredith stood outside her father's house after being estranged from him for twenty years, there were tears in her eyes.
"She had an affair."
"Yes."
"Why didn't you stay and fight for us? You just left."
"I did… I mean I tried."
" Meredith, is there anything you need? Anything at all?"
The tears in Meredith's eyes threatened to spill down her cheeks.
"No, I don't need anything from you."
Fighting her tears, Meredith turned and ran toward her car.
Derek was alone in the trailer. He'd fought with Addison after Mark showed up and she'd packed up and headed to the airport with him.
I never forgave her and with you I don't even have an obligation to try.
Derek got up to refill his glass of single-malt when there was a knock at the door.
With his shirt unbuttoned and hanging loose Derek opened the door to find a teary eyed Meredith waiting on the other side.
"Hey, I hope it's okay that I came by."
"You know it is. What's wrong?"
"I just saw my father for the first time in twenty years. My mother cheated on him and he didn't stay. He left when I was five."
So that's what that conversation was all about earlier.
"I know I shouldn't have come here. You and I Addison are trying to make it work…I just…I just needed you."
"Meredith, it stopped working between Addison and I a long time ago. And I've needed you since the day I met you."
Derek opened his arms and Meredith let him hold her. Every touch was familiar as if they had never stopped seeing each other.
As they headed inside the trailer. They both knew that they belonged together. They both knew that they needed each other
