Their Past, Our Future: The Legion Wars

Summary

AU- Almost nine years ago Earth and Mobius became one once again. Not having forgotten Sonic and his friends, the three main governments that arose agreed to call the planet New Mobius. Peace was fragile with a few skirmishes here and there. Now, a new country has come into being and threatens to utterly shatter that peace and turn the world upside down. The country simply calls itself Legion and is lead by a tyrannical madman named Julian Kintobor. Him and his Legionnaires have managed to engulf all but the three main powers: the United Countries of Free Peoples, the Acorn Kingdom and the Hedgehog Kingdom. Seeing how tenuous things are, the leaders of these countries have decided, as the last free peoples, to have a summit and attempt to form an alliance. As battle lines start to draw and bullets prepare to fly, young Nova "Snow" Prower (my oc), the friend/protector of Princess Sonia Hedgehog, prepares to celebrate his ninth birthday, unaware of just how much his life is about to change…

Follow the journey of young Snow as he discovers both himself and what war is all about. Bullets fly, families are torn apart, a seemingly tragic love forms and betrayal abounds. This story is rated 'M' for extreme violence, death, lemons and all out chaos. Does contain Author Characters (OC's) and takes place in an Author Universe I came up with specifically for this story. 1st part of what I hope will be the first of many Their Past, Our Future stories.

AN: Hi all, Snow the Werefox here. Well, welcome to the redo of Their Past, Our Future. I realized I left a lot unexplained and there was a lot of missing info. So I decided to start at the very beginning. I won't bore anyone but there are a few tidbits I will mention at the end of the chapter. With that said: on we go!

Chapter 1: Birthday, Reunion and Black Widows

The fox kit heard a giggle from somewhere nearby, he let out a small noise as he opened his eyes to see the person responsible. "Rosemary dear," a male voice chided, "you've woke the other one. Isn't it enough I accidentally woke Miles?"

"But Amadeus, honey, I do need to feed them," the vixen, Rosemary responded as she scooped him up in her arms. She turned him enough that he got a really good look at her. She had white fur, gentle ice blue eyes and a lithe figure, with four white tails with frosty tips waving gently behind her. "We hello there little Nova," she purred at him, causing him to reach for her, "are you hungry son?" The kit shook his head and reached for her again. "Ok sweetie," Rosemary giggled as she hugged him to her and sat down by her husband, "Amadeus dear, we are really blessed to have such beautiful children."

"Yes dear," Amadeus replied as he riffled the two hairs sticking up on the little sienna furred fox kit's head in his lap. The little kit opened his eyes to reveal sky blue orbs and yawned. The kit he held was the spitting image of him, "we truly are."

"To think this all started three years ago when I met the handsome General who leads King Acorn's army," the white vixen grinned, "and snared his heart. It's still hard to believe me, the simple handmaid to Queen Aleena Hedgehog, was able to do that."

"You were no simple handmaid, Captain Rosemary Prower. You were leader of her personal guard, the Warmaidens," his face turned serious all of a sudden, "but enough of this. Do we really have to do this?"

His mate sighed, a tear in her eye, "Yes dear. I made a promise to Queen Aleena that one of my line would always guard the daughters of her family. It's a Hunter tradition and we agreed I shouldn't break it. Nova will go and become her three year old daughter's friend and bodyguard." She looked at the kit in her arms, "Remember this my sweet son. This is the memory that will tell you when to tell them exactly who you are and who your parents are…"

"Wake up," a voice demanded near his ear, "some bodyguard you are! You sleep like a log! Wake up!" A young fox slowly opened his eyes, revealing a pair of warm ice blue orbs. He stared at the young, purple female hedgehog in front of him before stretching and yawning. He slowly sat up, aware of the put upon sigh she gave off. "Have you honestly forgotten what today is Snow," the hedgette half demanded, half asked.

That caught his attention, "Snow?"

"Well Nova, I was thinking," she started, "my mom had a nickname for her guard captain and friend, Rosemary Hunter, so I have been trying to figure out one for you. What do you think? It's because of your snow white fur and that odd ice ability you have."

Nova got up and got dressed as he mulled it over, "I like it and no, I haven't forgotten what today is, it's my ninth birthday."

"Happy birthday Snow," Sonia exclaimed as she handed him a small, neatly wrapped present. The fox tore into it with a smile as he saw what was in it. Two weeks ago he had stopped an attempt to assassinate Sonia and her mother, who just happened to be the Princess and Queen of the Hedgehog Kingdom. During the ensuing fight in which he had to single handedly defend them both, the metal chain around his neck that held his rare chaos crystal, a family heirloom, broke. In the box was his chaos crystal on a brand new expensive looking gold chain, inlaid with a silvery metal he couldn't identify. "It's inlaid with diamodium," She clarified, "the strongest metal there is in the world. That chain should withstand any assault you might have to fend off during your duties as my bodyguard."

"Thank you," he smiled as he put it around his neck, "it must've cost a fortune."

"There is nothing that I wouldn't spend on my best friend," the Princess replied, "nothing but the best I can get is what you'll get." At this point there was a knock at the door.

"Come in," Nova commanded, suddenly slipping into his role as his best friends guard.

A female lupine dressed in Warmaiden armor stepped in, "Happy birthday Nova. Princess Sonia, your mother asked me to fetch you and Nova and conduct you both to her personal chambers. She wishes the both of you to join her for breakfast."

"Thank you Sergeant Arra," Sonia replied, "tell my mother that we will be there shortly, I know the way and Snow is quite capable of getting me there safely."

"By your command Princess," Arra said as she departed with a bow. Snow finished dressing and followed his friend out of his quarters, adjacent to hers and toward her mother's rooms. As they approached he touched the matte black band on his wrist and the color spread and coalesced into full body armor.

Sonia watched in amazement, "I know you will probably dodge the question once again, but where did all the tech you've been using come from?"

The kitsu smiled, "I know you're curious but all will be revealed sooner than you think." Last night he had dreamed of his family, and it was the one his mom had told him that once he had, he could reveal everything. The purple hedgehog simply sighed and shook her head as she knocked on the door to her mother's chambers, baffled as always by the mystery surrounding her closest friend and loyal bodyguard. It didn't take long before the two were told to come in and both stood before Queen Aleena. Nova knelt and bowed, placing a closed fist over his right breast, "Your Majesty, I have brought your daughter, safe and sound as asked."

The royal hedgette smiled, "Rise Nova and let me get a good look at you. I also want you to meet the Acting Captain of my Warmaidens, Lieutenant Trianna Wolfe." She then motioned to the white she-wolf next to her and the Todd nodded to her in greeting.

"My god, your highness," Trianna exclaimed as she looked him over, "do you notice, he looks exactly like Captain Hunter!" Nova couldn't help but grin at that.

"You know, you're right," Aleena agreed after giving him a thorough once over, "he does! How did I not notice that before!?"

"I know everyone is curious, but if you want, I am now ready to shed some light on who I am and who my parents are," Nova commented, much to Sonia's surprise and interest, "just let me do something right fast." He touched his pendant and mumbled to it. A blue bird made of pure light appeared and took off, headed for an unknown place.

"So," the Queen said, eyes alight with curiosity, "what is your full name and who are your parents?"

"My full name is Nova Prower," the fox answered promptly, "I am the son of Amadeus and Rosemary Prower, your daughter gave me a nickname today too. She calls me Snow."

"What was Rosemary's maiden name," the she-wolf inquired.

"Hunter, Rosemary Hunter. She was the Captain of her majesties Warmaidens when she met my father, who is the Commanding General of King Acorn's forces," Snow stated politely.

"So your mother is my mother's closest friend and longest standing bodyguard," Sonia queried.

Before anyone could answer, a pure white glow appeared in the room and a vixen that looked to be an older, female version of the young fox appeared as it faded, "Yes, he is and I am."

"Momma," Nova exclaimed as he shot into her arms like a rocket, "I have missed you sooo much!"

Rosemary embraced him warmly, "I have missed you too my sweet son!" The others stood in silence, watching their happy reunion.

"Rosemary," Aleena finally broke in, "I have missed you so much! Why didn't you tell me you had married Amadeus and had such a smart, loyal and wonderful boy!?"

"I am sorry Aleena," the vixen replied, "I was afraid you would be upset. Things were tense between the Hedgehog and Acorn Kingdoms back then. I didn't have one boy, I had twins, well two boy's. Both are clever, smart and growing into rather fine men, as I can now see."

"Ma'am," the Warmaiden Lieutenant started, "is this just a visit?"

Rosemary shook her head with a smile, "No, Trianna. My husband got tired of me moping around the house all day and putting his troops to shame in the exercise rooms and told me to go back to serving the Queen if Nova called for me to come. So, unless I am not able to, I would be glad to reassume command of the Warmaidens."

The Hedgehog Queen smiled at her best friend, "The Warmaidens are always your's to command girl!"

Trianna smiled, "Then I guess I stand relieved of command. It is good to have you back, ma'am. I will go inform the rest of the Warmaidens of your return." With a quick bow to the Queen and a salute to her Captain, she left.

Once she was gone, Rosemary shook her head, "Still as full of herself as ever I see."

Aleena reflected a moment, "No, I think it got worse after you left but has toned down a bit since your son got here. Your son has never had any problem telling her where to stuff her ego, much like someone else I know."

The vixen giggled, "I taught him well then."

The queen laughed wildly at that, "You didn't just teach him well, you taught him to save lives! He single-handedly thwarted an attempt on mine and Sonia's lives not but two weeks ago. The would be assassins took out two of your finest maiden's but underestimated the reason for your son's presence. He taught them a lesson they won't be forgetting for a very long time!"

"Considering one is missing a leg, one an arm, one an ear and one has a face that looks like a scratching post? I don't think they will forget me anytime soon," he chuckled briefly before turning serious, "though I am still lost as to who that she-wolf was that could repel my glacialkinetics and dodge my attacks as if they were nothing. I hope I get to meet her again, I have been training rigorously ever since." Rosemary smiled at her son proudly and hugged him once more.

"It was indeed impressive," Sonia grinned, "some of it made me wonder. There was once a race of nine-tailed foxes with mastery over elemental kinetics and the ability to wield chaos energy. They were also warriors of great skill and seemingly perished thousands of years ago defending Mobius from some great evil. They were called the Kitsune." Nova smiled at his mother and she nodded.

"The kitsune can never really die," he said as the two kitsu touched the pendant hanging around their necks, "they simply hide till they are strong enough to defend the planet once more." Both foxes glowed the colors of their crystals and when it faded, both stood there looking much the same as usual, except they no longer had four tails, they had nine.

Aleena and Sonia stared at one another before Aleena said, "If this isn't a surprise, pleasant at that. But why hide?"

"We hide so that we can live," Rosemary said, "we are born with less tails because our children are easily influenced so they are cut off from their powers and the knowledge of what they are till they are old enough to handle it. My son Miles still has no access to his true form or abilities, he isn't ready yet for the expectations the world forces on our kind. Also, there have been points in history where we were reviled and alienated, even killed. Hiding ensures our survival and also protects the world from an out of control Kitsu."

"Mom," Sonia said, "this is all nice but I am sure this is not why you summoned both me and Nova."

"It's not," the Queen replied, "I summoned you to tell me you two are to accompany me to a summit being held in Station Square. This is to arrange an alliance between the United Federation of Free Peoples, the Acorn Kingdom and us. The threat posed by Robotnik and his Legionaire's isn't something we can ignore, nor is it one any of us can face without allies."

"I will be on my best behavior," her daughter assured with a quick glance at Snow, they both knew this would mean they could meet with the leaders of the Freedom Fighter's in those regions.

"Then it's settled, mostly," Aleena turned her attention to the two foxes, "I leave the means of protection and travel to you two." The two foxes nodded and left to discuss just that….

AN: Well, here is the first chapter! I hope everyone enjoys it!
