HAPPY NEW YEAR

Unexpected

Alex couldn't understand why she had been disappointed that Owen…Sam had tried to steal from her. After all the man had told her countless times that he wasn't Owen and that he wasn't a good person. He was there just to get money.

So why was she disappointed that he'd done exactly what she'd expected him to do?

He came back to help you, a voice, unbidden, told her. He could have gone off with all your money and left you to the mercy of Amanda's man but he didn't.

Alex shook her head to clear it. She needed proof; she needed to know for real what Sam was up to and she had a way of doing just that.

Alex turned plane around and made her way to Paris. She couldn't believe Sam had actually gone there. He should have been off somewhere else stealing the fake diamonds, instead he'd been taken by some thugs and had to save him again.

Maybe I should just let him killed. Even as that thought crossed her mind she dismissed it. She couldn't let Sam be killed. Not consciously. Not when she could do something about it.

"One of us should be honest," Sam said.

Alex looked at him in fear. Honest? How could she be honest with Sam when she was still lying to herself? Why did he have to spoil everything by making them have that talk now? She wasn't willing to be honest. Not now.

Having said his piece, having made her start to think about feelings that she couldn't possibly be having, Sam began to walk away and suddenly Alex knew. She wasn't ready to define or even think about what 'this' was. She doubted that would even be able to in the next few weeks but one thing was clear. She couldn't let Sam turn his back on her. She couldn't let him leave.

They would have the real talk about 'this' later.

Without let herself think about what her actions meant or whether it was right, Alex pulled Sam back and kissed him.

Yep, they would definitely have that talk later.
