It was the beginning of July and the heat was smoldering. Severus and his best mate, Lily, were sitting near the edge of the pond, that was located near their homes, trying to cool down.
"What do you want to listen to?" Lily asked Severus holding up several different records. The Christmas before Lily had gotten her own portable phonograph and the two of them had been playing it non-stop. Severus didn't really care that much for muggle music so he shrugged his shoulders.
"Hmm." Lily pondered over them. "How about this."
She carefully pulled the huge, round disk and placed it onto the machine. She pulled the needle down and jumped up whilst holding her hand down to Severus.
"Let's dance." She said excitedly. Severus wanted to say 'no' but with just one look at her face he knew he couldn't refuse. The lyrics to the song started to drift out and Lily quickly wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I love this song." Lily said and rested her head onto Severus's shoulder, whom was nervously followed her movements. "This should be our song."
Severus nodded but felt his face heat up. "Alright."
Severus finally started to pay attention to the lyrics.

Whenever you need me
I'll be there
And although 12 year-old Severus didn't know it at the time, he would always be there for Lily. Even in death.
