When Left Unchecked
It was quiet. It was seriously waaay too quiet. There wasn't even any Zombies or Witches around right now. They'd found themselves a Haven of sorts, and everyone was just… sitting there. Silently. It was to be expected after that last town they'd passed through. And it was driving the overalls-wearing Georgian absolutely nuts. He leaned back against the wall he was sitting by with a laugh. It never failed. There was always something that reminded him of that old friend of his.
"You know. There was this one time, Keith and I got into an argument. My gentleman friend didn't speak to me for weeks. I thought I was going to have to do something REAL drastic to get him to stop being so stubborn about things. Funny too, we were only fighting because he spotted myself and this rather attractive female he had been courting for a good while. I couldn't tell him what we were actually doing, I had given my word to the lady." He paused for a few seconds here, used to being stopped at about this point in all his stories. Well, when no one said anything, he took that as the go-ahead for a real good one.
"Keith had been in a committed relationship with that lovely woman for approximately one month, and he clearly fancied her. So he crossed paths with myself and this girl, who hugged me, and kissed me right about here." He tapped his cheek right at the corner of his mouth with one finger. "Of course now I'm thinking I may have been blushing at the time. She was rather attractive afterall." He slid down the wall slightly so he was lounging more as he fiddled with the sleeves of his overalls where they were tied around his waist. "If she hadn't been with Keith, I would have loved to take her out for tea."
"When Keith saw that, he got rather perturbed and lashed out, giving me a good talking to. I couldn't even explain, with the girl still standing about there." He pointed to an empty place just to his left. "She still wasn't quite ready to tell him her secret, and Keith likely thought I was attempting to woo his significant other away from him."
"After Keith ceased his non-violent chat about how I had betrayed him, that lovely girl approached and told him he was out of line. He said he couldn't trust either of us and walked off in a huff. Now I knew where he would be heading, though I also knew I should let him calm down before trying to talk to him. Meanwhile, the girl involved began leaking tears where she stood in the street. I tried once again to talk her into tellling him her secret, but she didnt want to be a burden to him."
"She had been just preparing to tell him when all of this transpired. Next time he saw her though, he ended the relationship and told her in no uncertain terms that he never wanted to see her again. She was devastated and ran off. To this day, no one I know of ever saw her again. It was a sad thing, one of the secrets she had been keeping was that she was pregnant and he was the father. I was likely being a touch selfish when I didn't tell him after she had departed, I didn't want him to leave me to go after her... He was infected before I got the chance to tell him..." He slid to sitting upright, where he circled his arms around his knees lightly. "...I did try to tell him eventually... I don't think he understood what I was saying at that point..." His laughing expression from a joyful walk down memory lane had faded to a listless grey expression, eyes closed and obviously threatening tears. "...It wasn't much longer before I was forced to... that I... had to-"
It was Nick who spoke then, cutting off his words. "Overalls, would you kindly shut the Hell up?"
Ellis blinked himself out of the horrible stupor that had been draining into him. ...As you see fit, sir..." He looked gratefully across at Nick, trying to decide whether that was an act of kindness, trying to keep him from having to relive that day, or if he really just didn't care.
"Damn, now I need a cigarette..."
A/N : May the butthurt rejoice. I have been convinced to update this, years after its initial post. Clearly I was being insensitive with the original dialogue. This sounds much more like Ellis in the long run. Don't you think?
