It had been a long day in the Special Victims Unit squad room. This latest case had gotten to Olivia. Maria called and talked to Olivia for hours on end. John had tried to tell Olivia that this had all been a hocks; luckily Olivia wasn't going to let this girl go. The creep Richard Dwyer kidnapped Maria and used her as his own personal sex slave. Now Olivia was sitting slumped over her desk doing paper work. John was watching her as she flipped over her flies.
"Have you eaten anything today?" he asked suddenly. Olivia had forgotten that he was there and was surprised by the gentle tone of his voice as it shook through her.
"No"
"Are you hungry?"
"Yeah" and with that the two of them got up from their desks and John helped Olivia with her jacket. Without a word the two walked to John's car as if he had been a routine. Once they arrived at the little restaurant down the street that the squad always ate at, they got out, John of course opening the door for her.
"Always a gentleman" she smiled to him as she took his hand and he helped her out. Again as if routine John held open the door for her and they walked to the closest booth. After the two ordered, they sat in silence just looking at each other before John spoke.
"I'm sorry" Olivia looked at him confused.
"For what?" she asked.
"For what happened today…with the phone call"
"John…" she started but was cut off.
"I was just trying to protect you" he said looking up into her eyes. Olivia was going to say something but was cut off again, this time by the waiter bringing their food. Not knowing what else to say they sat and ate in silence.
John pulled up to Olivia's apartment and opened the door for her.
"Thank you" John just smiled at her.
"I'll walk you up" John offered and they walked to Olivia's apartment. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow" John said turning to leave.
"John, wait!" Olivia said after him.
"Yeah?" John said walking back to her. Olivia leaned in and kissed him lightly on the cheek.
"Thank you for everything…and I know you were trying to protect me and I really appreciate it" she smiled and kissed him quickly again.
"Anything for you Liv" John smiled before walking down the hall.
