Sometimes smiles, shared secrets and glances aren't enough, sometimes you want more. You need something deeper, something that gives you a feeling you can't mistake, something that makes you happy. Complete. She wanted more than a simple brush of their shoulders, occasional and accidental. She needed him, but that's not something most people could understand.
His aura seemed to linger in the room once he'd left, she breathed in his aura, and exhaled slowly, luxuriating in his memory. Suddenly she was alone with Cragen in his office and she knew he was saying something to her but she couldn't hear. Her mind swam with thoughts of him, and the fiery pit her stomach was becoming every time she thought of Munch.
"So see you tomorrow at court I guess." Don said pulling Casey back into reality as the visions of her and John fled from her mind.
"Uh, yeah, sure." She muttered before quickly exiting the room, John smiled at her as she left and she smiled back but it wasn't enough, it was never enough. When would they stop playing these silly games? Why couldn't she admit her feelings, what possible harm would come from it?
She wanted to turn, to race to him, to feel the press of his lips against hers, but she restrained herself, fearing what her own feelings would drive her to. Breathe in and breathe out. A smile or a shared glance is never enough.
She looked down at her empty hands, perfectly manicured finger nails, perfect suit, hair, appearance, it wasn't enough to look perfect, and she needed something more. Suddenly the thought of her empty hands reminded her she'd forgotten her brief case in the precinct. She raced back inside, arriving in the bullpen looking flushed.
"Miss me?" Munch asked sarcastically.
Casey rolled her eyes but secretly her heart screamed yes, "Have you seen my brief case?"
"No."
"Where is everyone else anyways, you're no help."
"Thanks," John replied, "They're out doing their jobs, ironically. Cragen needs me here."
"Here it is." Casey muttered at last finding her brief case.
She was about to leave once more before Munch called after here, "Hey, Casey you feel like going for a drink after work?"
She smiled back at him, "Yeah sounds great." The games weren't over yet, they both knew full well where this was going to lead, because if they didn't end the games tonight they never would. They had to end the games before they were driven insane; they had to call a draw because just winning is never enough. You need something deeper, more meaningful, more than just a glance, more than a kiss, more than a one night stand. Love has to mean something more after all, it's more than a game, it's something constant, and it was what they were both searching for, why they both knew that they'd end up sleeping together. Munch smiled at her and gave her a knowing look; she walked over, planting a gentle kiss on his lips, but it wasn't enough, now they had to fall in love.
