A/N: I don't really like the way the story turned out. It doesn't seem to be my best right now. I don't know whether you guys will like it or not. But I hope you enjoy it.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter
Assignment #6 of: Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom
Task: This jinx is so unheard of and has some peculiar effects on the body. This jinx is light-hearted and funny, not completely dangerous at all and I'd like that to come across in your assignment. As well as a humorous and light story, I want a pumpkin to have a major part in your story. You cannot mention it in passing.
Criticism or any form of advice is highly appreciated!
A Day In a Pumpkin
Ginny looked intently at all of the students when they were facing each other off. She smirked as she remembered Harry's duel with Draco from long ago. She remembered how Tom Riddle had used her to write the names in blood. She shook her head. It's not a good thing to remember the past. It will just burden you more. Ginny's mother's words flowed into her brain, but it didn't work. She needed a distraction. She needed something that will at least make her day.
"Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood." The teacher called out. Perfect, this is the distraction I need. Ginny smiled as she saw others helping Luna climb onto the stage.
"Hello Ginny." She called out from the other side. Ginny laughed and gave a genuine smile at her friend.
"Hello Luna, no hard feeling?" She asked. Ginny didn't want to sadden Luna or make her mad during the fight.
Luna shook her head and smiled. "No hard feelings. We will still be friends after this." Luna and Ginny went to their corners of the stage and got into stance.
"Alright girls. Jinxes are allowed, and if you are using spells, disarming only. Are you ready? Begin!" At the exact moment Ginny called out a spell but Luna easily blocked it.
Ginny looked at Luna and saw her mouth move. She couldn't hear what it was for Luna's voice was too soft. Ginny could see, but a second later her eyesight was being blocked by something. It smelled familiar to her. She tried to get rid of it, but she felt her wand being disarmed.
"Good job girls." Ginny knew she had lost, but she still tried to get the object off her head. It seemed bigger in size, but she didn't know what it was. After a few seconds of trying, Ginny felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Let me help you with that." Luna called out, before smashing the object. After the item was off her head, Ginny immediately looked at it and laughed hard.
"A pumpkin! You put a pumpkin over my head, Luna?" Luna smiled and laughed with her. "Where did you learn how to do that? And what did you use?" Ginny asked, while trying to stop laughing.
"I read it in an article in my house once about a jinx called the Melofors Jinx. It summons a pumpkin on the opponent's head. I never really thought of using that spell, but I thought that it would be fun. You seemed really out of it today, so I wanted to make today fun for you."
Ginny stared at Luna. "Thank you, Luna." Luna smiled but fidgeted. "What's wrong?"
"My mother and I used to make pumpkins in our backyard. It reminds of her, she used to use that jinx on us whenever we feel sad." Luna said.
Ginny sighed and got up. She walked over to Luna and hugged her. "Come on, Luna. Thanksgiving is almost here to Hogwarts. Maybe we can grow some pumpkins so that they can make some pumpkin food for us during the holiday." Luna walked Ginny and smiled.
"That would be nice." She said as they both walked out of class together, arms draped on one another.
