Sitting on a balcony somewhere in New York City a man watches the city bustle with life. Even at this late hour the city was alive and well. That day should have been long forgotten but his subconscious had other ideas. No one was hurt it had been an accident. It was even that event that gave him the courage to ask his boyfriend to marry him. To some it might have seemed crazy to get engaged after they were just starting to understand each other again. Not to him though, he did not want to waste another second. After all no one is guaranteed their next day. A cool breeze ruffled the mass of tangled curls on his head while also sending a shiver through his body. All at once he became aware of where he was and that his olive cheeks were wet. A trickle of tears that had started just after he was startled awake. With his friends, parents, and teachers help he thought he had been over it. What exactly had brought up these memories? That was just it everything had been great that day.

Inside the apartment another man slept peacefully. That is until he tried to find his husbands warmth only to be met with empty bed. Being that he was half asleep it took him a few minutes to realize someone was on the balcony. Sleepily he tried to open the door his long limbs not cooperating. Eventually he managed to get the darn thing open before taking a seat next to the crying man. To let his husband know he was there he sat next to him and took took one of the shorter mans hands in both of his. This made the first man jump but he quickly settled when he realized he had no reason to be afraid. A short talk turned into a long comforting hug. They figured out that a news story that day had probably reminded the first man of the shooting at their high school. Both men sat on the tiny balcony until the sun came up the next morning. After which a day was spent just being with each other.
