Apathy of God
He liked to think that his life started with a bang. For those that knew him, it was hard not to believe that he came into this world with a loud roaring explosion of life or death. For him though, his life didn't really start till he could feel the explosions surge from the tips of his fingers. Everything before that was a whimper compared to what he was today.
He remembered his first explosion better than he could remember anything else. It was like watching his life suddenly gain meaning. Explosions were not unlike his mind; sudden and painful.
More than that, he remembers his first understanding that humans themselves were like walking explosions. Their bodies and chemistry could be used to create the most delicious explosions he could ever experience.
When the war started, he felt more alive than he'd ever felt. With those stones, he suddenly had the power to fully unleash himself. To show them all that he was and all that he could become.
How he missed those stones. Those precious gems that allowed him more than he could have ever dreamed of. He was like some terrible God there to crush the pitiful insects for ever dreaming of trying to stand against him. When they took those stones away from him, they might as well have taken away his very soul.
The first explosion after being locked away was like an orgasm ripping through his whole body. The tingling in his fingers as the heat spread. The gentle popping as the victim's skin slowly cooked inside out. The final crack and scream right before the oh so delicious bang.
Even as the explosive joy shot through him, he could feel the slow burn at the back of his mind. It was nothing without his stones. How could he forget that once, he was God?
God had a new face now. A new name that suited him and all that he was. Greed. More than a mere man, he was all that God was according to Kimblee. A pure greedy bastard with no interest in the common man. He was a walking embodiment of all that Kimblee could have been.
When Greed offered him the chance to join him, how could he say no? He could feel the power inside Greed. So close and so familiar. Each explosion for Greed was bigger, bloodier, stronger. Yet he felt frustration creeping up. He was at his limit and God simply didn't care.
His pride kept Kimblee from begging. He wanted to take the power and watch the blood flow through his fingers. To rise up and watch the flames fill the world again. The explosions of the past would ring in his ears each night, waking him up in a cold sweat. The closer he got to Greed, the more he thought of all that he could have been. All he could be.
Greed could give him everything and he had nothing. The closer to Kimblee Greed became, the more Kimblee seemed to crumble. Their relationship seemed to have been ignited with a fast burning fuel. Burning strong and hard only to die at the peak of the blaze.
Archer never was afraid of God. He looked right through Greed, and saw Kimblee. He knew what the former God wanted and he held it out like ambrosia. It hardly took a second thought for Kimblee to decide to betray Greed. He needed the stones so he could rise up and be even with Greed. Maybe once he was there, he could look Greed in the eyes and match his languorous grin.
Archer and Greed. Kimblee never saw it, they were two sides to the same man. One offered him freedom and one offered him power.
