Why The Caged Bird Never Sings
Chapter One- In which a promise is made
"Ilia, I swear I'm coming back. Just trust me, alright?"
The younger blonde girl placed her hands on her hips and frowned.
"Fine. Ride through Hyrule Field and get yourself killed for all I care. But you're not taking Epona."
Link sighed. Not this again.
"You'll ride her to hard, and the fields are da-"
Dangerous. Yeah, I know. I've been through them at least ten times."
The routine carried itself out in this manner, Ilia giving him a reason to not leave and Link almost comepletly ignoring what she had to say and giving his own reasons for leaving. This was how it went every time that Link managed to get a day off from hearding goats (not the most glamorous thing ever) and decided to go somewhere. Last time it had been Lake Hylia ("If you drown that horse, I'm tying you to a tree") and the time before that he had been to Kakariko ("I'm going to laugh if you get sat on by a Goron.")
Which, Link had to admit, would have been amusing, yet very unlikely.
"Alright, Ilia. I'll going to make you an offer. If you let me take Epona just this once without irritating me about it, I'll take you to Castle Town."
Ilia clapped her hands together in excitement, obviously forgetting all about the horse.
"You are a horrible liar, Link! You wouldn't, would you?"
Whoops. Big mistake.
Link nodded, though reluctantly. But whatever it took to get Ilia out of the state of mind that anything he did would kill Epona, right?
Right. Let's go with that.
And besides, Castle Town was just within range of the actual castle.
And he would be that much closer to the princess.
But that wouldn't be for a while. Besides, Ilia was alot more pleasant when she wasn't royally pissed about Link riding to hard.
"Link, we might even get to meet Princess Zelda and the king! Well, of course you've already met them, but seeing old friends is always a good thing, right?" Ilia dreamily exclaimed.
"Of course, Ilia."
Link couldn't help but smile.
Authors Comments:
Uh. A first attempt? Yeah. Don't shoot me. I'm not an Ilia fan, believe it or not, buuuut I guess she's important so she's not going to die a horrible, agonizing death. Zelda comes in later. Did I mention how bad first chapters suck? Because they do.
