Kate walked into her room, closing the door quietly, resting her back against it with a sigh. Her head fell backward and her eyes closed for a moment, a small smile stretching over her lips. She saw Tommy in her mind's eye, his face seemingly brighter than the sun, his eyes even brighter than that. It was kind of thrilling to her that she'd be going out with him in only a matter of hours.

Tonight was their senior dance - the last time the people in their graduating class would all see each other before they parted ways. Of course, Kate and Tom would stay close, though. So that didn't really apply to her.

The brunette pushed herself off the door, headed for her closet when something purple caught her eye.

A dress was lying on her bed, already pressed, ready to wear. She'd never seen it before then, but that didn't make it any less beautiful. It was a grape-like color, complete with white satin accents branching out from a pleated waistline. It was absolutely gorgeous, and it seemed like it was really expensive.

She was about to pick it up to examine it more closely when she found the note, lying off to the side of the dress. Accompanied with it was a small diamond necklace and dangle earrings.

Katherine, it read.

I'm sure you'll look beautiful.

- Mom

Kate looked once again at the dress, then back at the piece of paper in her hands.

She can't honestly think I'm going to wear this, she thought.

But her curiosity got the best of her, and she quickly undressed, slipping on the purple halter gown shortly after.

Before turning to look in the mirror though, she put on the jewelry her mother had left her. She wanted to make sure that the first image she got of herself would be a complete one.

With a heavy exhale, Kate slowly turned to face the mirror. She met her own eyes in her reflection, gasping softly. She wasn't one to flatter herself or brag about looks or anything like that - but as she looked in the mirror, she knew she looked stunning.

The V-neck of the dress cut just low enough, the sides held her just tight enough, and the length was just right. In addition to all that, it seemed that the dress was the perfect shade of purple, making the green of her eyes stand out even more prominently against her lightly freckled skin.

Kate sighed quietly, a tiny smile creeping across her lips as she reached backward, tugging her hair out of it's ponytail.

Oh yes, she was definitely wearing this.

If she was going out, she was going out with a bang.
