Author's note
Placed after Rue's death. The story has parts of 2 songs. One that Katniss sings to Rue, and the other is 'Safe and Sound' by Taylor Swift. This is my first Fan Fiction, so enjoy!

Katniss' Dream: SAFE AND SOUND
'Why did she have to die?' I thought to myself. I was sitting under a large willow tree. The irony of me under a willow tree. I remember some of my last words to Rue were 'Down in the meadow, under a willow,' it was my song and Prim's and now Rue's song; the last words she heard before she died. 'She was such a good person, way better then those blood thirsty careers out there.' I think about her last words, how self-less she was, and I know I will cry myself to sleep.
"Hi Katniss," a small voice calls above my head. Looking up I see one of the most surprising things ever. It is RUE! Sitting in a tree, beside Rue is something even more astonishing. I see my sister sitting in the tree with Rue.
"Prim…?" I call out, "What are you doing here?"
"I met Rue!" Prim tells me happily.
"I can see," I reply, "But what are you doing in the Hunger Games?" I must have sounded a little hostile. I can see that part of her grin fading a little. But she isn't supposed to be in the hunger games. That would defeat the reason I volunteered.
"I came to say hi!" she tells me.
"What do you think of my braiding?" Rue asks me, interrupting, she was holding up a long braided strand of Prim's golden hair. Prim giggles happily. Then the two of them jump down from the tree and onto the clearing beside me.
"Rue taught me a new song," Prim tells me, "Want to hear it?"
"Okay," I say. I see the two of them stand up and on their tiptoes, with their fingertips slightly extended. I see two birds about to take flight, not my sister and Rue.
"Just close your eyes, the sun is going down, you'll be alright, no one can hurt you now." Rue sings in her sweet and clear voice.
"Come morning light, you and I will be safe and sound." Prim joins in. I close my eyes, feeling safe and sound. I haven't felt that since my father died. I hang on to that thought until I hear a booming voice that brings me back to reality.
AN: Reviews are VERY welcome! I want to know what else I should write about. Suggestions? Thanks.
