The Age of Dragons

The sun cast a glaring reflection over the lake, as it rose from its temporary slumber. A Castle looms in the distance, its stone walls polished by the sun's light. The stone was a light shade of grey, although small patches of black seemed to have been thrown in without remorse. The gentle rolling plains, fertile with the bounty of spring, led into a small valley carved by a raging river, now calmed. Blooming fruit trees captured the fertility of the riverbank, while the smaller shrubs compete for survival. The entire area seemed to carry a sense of fragility, as if any crisis would shatter its serenity.

A black shadow moved over the land with ease. The beast seemed to be a master of the sky, moving with the natural thermals that rise and fall. The beast shimmered with a brilliance sunlight reflecting off its blood red scales. The creature was a dragon, master of the air, and tamer of the elements. Many myths and rumors were to be found in this land, but one was to be true: Dragons ruled this valley. The creature folded its wings in and bee-lined for the castle in a magnificent nosedive. The dragon landed in a courtyard, aged by dust and wind. As it looked around a booming voice filled the air.

"What have you come for, Niasisis?" The castle's owner stepped into the sunlight, filling the courtyard with his presence.

"Stop with the dramatics Xious, it is unneeded and unwelcome." No fear was shown in the decidedly female voice. The creature rolled her eyes, used to the show of dominance.

"You are unwelcome in this land Niasisis, and your presence is unnerving to the populous." The ashen dragons words stung, but she ignored the comment. She had a mission, after all.

"You are in danger, Xious, we all are. Will you be so arrogant to kick me out before I can tell you what this new threat is?" The older male sighed, resigned to at least listen to the young newcomer.

"You have my attention, but make it short." His words were sharp, but not without the hinting of curiousness. The Female lay down in a bright corner as she prepared for her long tale.
