First of all I want to get one thing straight: THERE ARE NO CHARACTERS FROM THE SERIES IN THIS BOOK! It is just the same setting as in Uglies so if your looking for a story about Tally or whatever, you're not gonna get it here.

Disclaimer: I don't own Uglies, but I do own these characters.

Christian Dawes looked down at her hands and sighed. She examined her fat fingers and tried to imagine what her new pretty hands would look like; long, slender fingers, unchewed fingernails, and soft skin. But it was only Christian's fifteenth birthday so she wouldn't be pretty for another year.

There was a knock on the door and Effie Greenbough entered without waiting for Christian to answer the door.

"Hey Freckles," Christian said, calling Effie by her Ugly nickname.

"Hey Chubby," Effie replied. Christian scrunched up her nose at the horrible nickname.

It was true though. Christian was fat. And that was just one of the many things that was wrong with her. She also had acne all over her pale white face, bulging dull brown eyes, a wide mouth and a too-big nose. Not to mention her unruly carrot-red curls. When Christian got the pretty operation she was going to be a blonde. A blonde with soft, tan skin, indigo eyes and full red lips. Christian had spend alot of time perfecting her pretty image . With the significant weight reduction, perfect features and blonde hair, Christian looked like a totally differant person.

Effie had also spent alot of time perfecting her pretty, but her's was alot differant than Christian's. (A dark brown bob with bangs, intense, cat-green eyes, long lashes, porcelain skin, high cheekbones, a straight nose and the same full red lips as Christian) At least Effie was already good-looking for an ugly with her big, curious brown eyes and whispy, blonde hair. From a distance, you might mistake her for a pretty, but up close you could tell she was clearly an ugly, especially once you were close enough to see the freckles that covered her entire face.

Nobody ever mistook Christian for a pretty, not even from a distance. Her weight was a tell-tale sign of ugliness. Christian had waited fifteen years to become pretty and now she felt like she couldn't wait another minute, let alone a year. Especially since Effie would be pretty in two weeks.

"What's wrong, Chubby?" Effie asked sensing something was the matter.

"It's nothing, Freckles," Christian replied. "It's just you'll be 16 soon and pretty and I'll be stuck here. Alone and ugly. I don't think I can take another year of this."

"I'll visit," Effie promised. "And when I do, we can work on your pretty some more. I think maybe she needs thicker hair and higher cheekbones." Christian sighed, not wanting to think of pretties anymore.

"Let's just go," she said. She grabbed her hoverboard and they headed out.

So...what did you think? For those of you who have read my other stories, I know I said I wasn't going to start any new stories until I finished all my other ones, but this doesn't count because those were Twilight fanfics and this is an Uglies fanfic. Press the green button to review.
