"Oh great," I thought to myself, biting my lip. "Just great." I
hadn't even been a vampire for five months, but I should have known. I was a
danger magnet.
It seemed as if when something dire vanished, an even worse predicament came
around. But if I were to die today, at least I would be dying with the one I
loved.
"So this is it?" I mumbled inaudibly, but I knew Edward would still be
able to hear me with his flawless hearing. "We're failing." It was more
of a statement of fact, rather than an urge for Edward to hurry. It was
inevitable that my death would come eventually, even if I had a vampire as a
boyfriend. My death was like an unstoppable force, and Edward would not be
able to hold it off much longer.
Nonetheless, there he was. Paying no attention to me as he struggled to save
us from that inevitability. I knew I was right though. We were going to perish
one way or the other.
