Lacy had only truly felt pretty once.
It had been the year before, right as she had been claimed at the campfire on her third night at camp. She was a daughter of Aphrodite. That had been the last one she would have thought. She was expecting a minor goddess, maybe Hecate or Iris or something like that. Definitely not the goddess of love and beauty.
She didn't even think she was pretty. She never had been.
But as she stood there, in front of the campfire that was now burning tall, and a bright reddish-orange color, she felt for the first time in her life, honest-to-gods pretty. It was a new, wonderful, almost exciting feeling. Her hair was blown out and curled in a way that she would never have thought of before, but looked great. The ruffled skirt and peasant blouse made her look taller, and her braces were gone, taking with it her usual slouch and downcast eyes. She stood straight with a shy smile that seemed to make almost everyone around her smile back at her. She knew the blessing would have to wear off sometime, but for now she was savoring the moment. She felt great.
She had to admit, it was nice being pretty. And it wasn't just the looks. It was also the confidence that came with it.
She had never felt this... good about herself. She had never really ever been one to stand out from the crowd. But now, everyone was smiling at her, almost if to say," Hey, we like you. You're cool. We'll be your friends. You aren't an outcast anymore."
It had been the best moment of Lacy's life.
Then a gorgeous girl, about 4 or 5 years older than Lacy, with shiny black hair and a condescending look in her beautiful brown eyes, stepped out from the crowd. She narrowed her eyes at Lacy and raised a perfectly penciled eyebrow at the crowd.
Lacy could practically hear her stomach drop and she felt her smile waver.
The girl raised her finger to point at Lacy and the girl opened her mouth in disbelief and scoffed.
"She's... She one of us? That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard."
She feel great anymore. She wasn't confident. She was never going to accepted here.
She didn't even feel pretty anymore.
Just a short little thingy about Lacy! Hope you enjoy and please, please REVIEW!
