Disclaimer: I do not own Covert Affairs. Wouldn't it be nice to actually own it for a change?
A/n: This is just a short piece of Auggie musing over the first time he met Annie. I am not really sure where this came from, it just popped into my head. Any comments would be appreciated, especially about characterisation :)
Annie
He should have known. The joke, or rather lake of one, should have been his first clue. He had said it to a lot of people over the years, 'blind guy leading you around the CIA, insert ironic joke here'. There had been lots of reactions to that, flirtatious from woman and self-gratifying from the men but Annie was different. She didn't say anything and Auggie could even sware he heard her smile. For the first time, he didn't feel blind. She treated him like an equal, not someone with a disability.
His second clue was the perfume, subtle yet sweet at the same time. It was uniquely hers, her cent mixed with the grapefruit. And the heels, those fantastic kitten heels. Coupled with the scent, it was Annie; there were no other words for it. Everything sweet, funny, friendly and coffee when he needed it most. She turned heads and had a knack for finding trouble, turning the most simple of missions into a debacle and he would always be there to get her out, the voice in her ear. She got him out into the field, even if it was only for a short time. So what if they got court, barefoot in the morgue, looking back on it now, it was funny, a story to tell his children. Not to mention the fact that she liked Mingus. He was sold to anyone who liked Mingus. He could talk to her about anything and count on her to be there. That was his Annie.
"Hey, Earth to Auggie. You listening?" Annie said, breaking Auggie out of his musings. She was perched on the corner of his desk and had been telling him something but what was it?
"Are you ok, you kinda zoned out on me there"
"Yeah I'm fine, just thinking"
"About what?"
"You"
"Why Anderson, do you care about me?"
"No, I just care about all the paperwork you seem to create"
"I thought there was no paperwork in the CIA"
"Busted"
Auggie and Annie continued to talk and Auggie had a new found appreciation for his best friend. Of how far they had come since he first met her. Looking back on it now, he should have known that they would end up becoming close friends. He could never have been more grateful than at that moment.
