Title: Dedicated

Series: 206 Ways to Say I Love You

Rating: K+

Summary: Why did Brennan dedicate her novel to Booth? A double drabble—exactly 200 words. For the April CBPC.

This book is dedicated to my partner and friend, Special Agent Seeley Booth. Just 13 words, but they'd been both the easiest and the hardest to write. Easiest because there wasn't anyone else she'd rather dedicate her second book to, hardest because she didn't want to think about what that meant.

She'd wrestled with the wording, not knowing exactly how to phrase what she wanted to say, not even knowing for sure what it was she wanted to say. Booth… He was her partner, her colleague; in a very real way, he was the reason she was still alive.

She knew they were more than just partners; that's why her honesty had compelled her to include "and friend" in the dedication. Yet… in the back of her mind she knew they were more than just friends as well.

In the end, she'd settled on "partner and friend", knowing it didn't fully encapsulate their relationship, sensing intuitively that perhaps no words really would. Maybe what they had was indefinable, or maybe it was just easier for now to leave it in the grey areas. Maybe someday she'd be ready for the whole truth—This is dedicated to the one I love.
