Dear Mom,

If you're reading this, then it means it's Mother's Day again. Time for another yearly update on what's been going on with my life.

First off, everyone is finishing rebuilding the town after the old Peaceville was flooded. It's kind of Trina's fault that happened because she threw my guitar into a wood chipper. No, I'm not making this up. She snatched my guitar, the exact same guitar you used during concerts, and threw it into a wood chipper. I got a new one that looks just like it, but it's just not the same.

Everything is starting to get back to normal. Actually mom, there's just one small change. It's Laney Penn, my best friend since childhood. I think I'm starting to have a crush on her. After she won the town beauty pageant, I started to see her in a different light. Everything about her became detailed. Her hair swaying as she moves, her eyes sparkling in the sunlight, her wonderful musical talent... Everything she does makes me love her more and more. I don't know what to do about it. What if she only sees me as a friend? I know you don't write back, but I want you to give me a sign telling me what to do.

So with that cleared up, I might as well tell you about the band. I still use Trina's diary for lyric inspiration. Laney wants me to write my own, but I can't do that! Every song I wrote in my notepad is about you! Mom, you're my only inspiration for songs. If I show the guys what I wrote, they'll never look at me the same way again. They'll know that underneath this façade is an emotionally-damaged twelve-year-old boy who cries himself to sleep after watching his first Bubble Bunch Band video every single night. I just can't let them know who I really am. It's not worth showing them my true self.

So until then, I'll keep using Trina's diary so my friends don't suspect a thing. After all, they probably have perfect lives with absolutely no family issues. Especially Laney. She's too perfect. I bet her parents are still around and care for her very much. There's no way a beautiful girl like her has problems. It's not like she witnessed a dangerous criminal break into her house and shoot both of her parents dead right before her very eyes on the night before her fourth birthday. Yep. A beauty like her couldn't have gone through that heartbreak that led to her going to a local orphanage and getting adopted by a single man who also adopted a girl four years older than her.

So yeah, mom. That's what's going on in my life. You would have been so proud of me. And until the day I finally join you and dad in your home in the sky, I'll keep on rocking every single day.

Love,

Corey Riffin, aka: Cornelius Trevor Baxter.

P.S.: I'm still getting used to my new last name.
