Kou was still shaking as the solider repeated the news he was dreading to hear. Nanami _ was dead. His best friend. One of the few soliders that understood what it was like to be different, a human to say the least. She was one of his few friends the loss of her left a hole in his chest. A feeling he couldn't replace, nobody could replace.
He stood straighter trying to keep his emotions in check. He had to stay strong Nanami would be pissed off at him if he started crying. She would mock him call him weak remind him that he had to be stronger then that if he wished to stay as a solider. Death was just part of the job, it was an honor to go down it battle. It was how she wanted to go.
"Are sure she is dead?" Kou questioned again, breathing heavily. He couldn't understand he wouldn't understand it. How could someone as strong as Nanami just be gone like that? She was fighting for a cause, she fighting to stay strong.
The man the solider nodded his head handing Kou's beat up sword "we went back to get her and began our search but…" he paused and scratched the back of his head too nervous to continue. He had shared the new with Nanami's father and the man was less then pleasant. Never in his life had he saw his general cry.
A single tear had escaped the old man's face. It was shocking to see a the old man who was known for his harshness, his stoic attitude towards battle holding back his emotion for the loss of his daughter. The few battles he lost. He was trying to win her love again but never could succeed. He had ordered the solider 'leave him be so he could mourn in peace. It was life's cruelest punishment, out living your child.
"but what?" Kou egged on he wasn't letting the man go until he answered, "but what?" His mind was still wrapping with the loss of his friend, the death of her. He wasn't sure how he could take the news.
"We could only find her sword next to a pile of rubble," the solider spoke quickly. He turned to another face solider who didn't dare to speak while Kou was getting the news of his friend. He held something wrapped in cloth.
The first solider unwrapped the sword from its cloth handing the old damaged up sword to her last friend she had in this world.
"She would want you to have this," he said, "It would be her last gift to you,"
Kou stared away from the man and stared at the sword that was in his hand. Nanami once held this sword once battled many people with this sword, won just as many. She had been so strong he continued on fighting. The hands that once held these swords were once rough and bristled were no more.
"I warned her not to be rash," Kou spoke not looking up shaking, "I warned her that she had to think about what she was doing the battles she was putting herself into," his hands were shaking. He lost her his friend. He was still grasping on to hop, that she was still alive. She was still alive fighting to find her way back. "you are dismissed," he told the solider.
