Chapter 1: The Reaping
"Well, today is it." John Lennon heaved a heavy sigh.
He was already 23 but for some reason the capital raised the age from 18 to 30 so John still had a few more years to go before he was out of the games forever.
He put on the grubby clothes of his district and headed outside to join the others.
Across Panem three other boys were getting ready to go out for the reaping as well.
Paul McCartney was a mere 21 years old and he sauntered out to greet the horrendous day with the bright cheery smile he always wore. He prayed he would not be chosen but couldn't guarentee that. And he would step in to volunteer if he had to for his younger brother Mike.
Ringo Starr smiled at his mother. He waved goodbye to her and headed off to be checked in by the peacekeepers. At 23 years old, he was nearly done with the reaping and grateful for that.
20-year-old Goerge Harrison was a quiet lad. As he ate the breakfast he didn't get to finish this morning he observed all the other children looking quite scared. He didn't feel concerned at all and was ready for whatever lie ahead.
At Each district a Capitol representative came and read the names of the two boys and two girls from the district who have been chosen in this glorious fight to the death.
In John's district District 11 Thresh and Rue were chosen along with a beautiful blonde named Cynthia Powell. When John laid his eyes on her he prayed hard to be picked so he could protect her. And then as the last name was being chosen the arena got quiet. "JOHN LENNON!" John got up and walked briskly to the stage.
Paul McCartney stood with his district which was number 3. He always felt that his district was one of the wealthier districts because it created the technology. Number 3's tributes were unnoteable until Paul heard his name. He walked up with fear in his eyes. A girl was standing beside the Capitol representative.
Paul did not remember hearing her name but then again He hadnt been paying attention. She had red-brown hair and beautiful eyes. She turned to Paul and introduced herself as Jane Asher. Paul knew she had to survive even if he did not.
George Harrison lives in District 6 because his father is the bus driver for the Capitol. This is a highly prestigious career but it doesn't pay as well as his father would have liked. As George headed out to the reaping he wasn't listening for names.
Suddenly with a jolt George realized his mother was signaling him to go up to the stage. His stomach tightened and his heart sped up. He and his neighbor and close friend Pattie Boyd went up together holding hands. Her warmth made him feel better.
The last boy, Ringo Starr lived in the poorest district, district 12. His father left the family when he was very young so it's just been him and his mother for as long as he can remember.
At the Reaping, Ringo was talking with his best friend Peeta Mellark while the video was playing. They didn't pay attention to Effie Trinket's words until they both heard Peeta's name. Looking up Peeta saw that his girl partner was a miner's daughter named Katniss. Peeta turned red and headed up to the stage slowly. Ringo watched his friend leave and was about to go when he heard something that made him jerk back around.
"RINGO STARR!" Effie yelled. Ringo looked back at his mother who had knowing tears in her eyes. Ringo shuffled up to the stage and stood in between Peeta and this girl he had never seen before. She introduced herself as Mo. Ringo and Mo held hands with Peeta and Katniss.
The 74th annual Hunger Games tributes had been chosen.
