Shakespearian Sonnet – Wicked

So I had to do this for an English class, and for some reason I really liked how the Wicked one (I also wrote a RENT one) turned out. For those of you who don't know, Shakespeare's sonnets have ten syllables per line, fourteen lines, 3 quatrains and 1 couplet (aka 14, like I said), and the format is ABAB CDCD EFEF GG. If that makes sense ;) But I'll tell you now, I have all that. And I'm proud of it, so I'm posting. Hope you all like it.

It's a very ironic sonnet, ha. ;)

Disclaimer: Wicked is to Gregory Maguire as Shakespearian Sonnets are to Shakespeare. AKA I own NOTHING.

A figure jumps quickly into shadows

Its face concealed by a dark scarf and hood

If seen now, her face would appear to glow

Passers-bye think she is up to no good

Her skin is green, which makes people suppose

That she is unnatural, even wrong

But even though they think this, the girl knows

That her daily insults won't last for long

Finding salvation in Wizard of Oz

Hiding her face from cruel shouted jeers

She hides in her books and from them because

Disapproval of green can't last for years

Soon Elphaba Thropp will be free of this

It will be gone, leaving nothing amiss
