We were comrades in arms,

"Soul mates" we had said,

But on one cold winters morning,

I discovered you dead.

You'd died in your sleep,

All alone in the dark,

You'd kept the wound from me,

Praying we wouldn't have to part.

You were always the brave warrior,

Nobel, loving and strong,

You'd just smile and carry on,

Pretending nothing was ever wrong.

The silence was deafening,

I knew something was amiss,

You were cuddled to me so tightly,

I tried to wake you with a kiss.

Your lips were blue and frozen,

Forever in a smile,

And I knew from that moment on,

I would have to walk the lonely mile.

I cried for three moons straight,

I was angry, lost... alone,

For those loving, blue diamond eyes,

I had once felt truly home.

Then on one chilled morning,

While combing my hair,

I felt a warm breeze,

Float through the air.

There in the river,

Just above my head,

You looked at me and smiled,

"I'll never leave you," you said.
