Perfection

Mayuri stared out from the window. Everything was just so perfect. His last experiment was now complete. There was nothing left to do. Nothing to invent that hadn't already beeninvented. No new crazy ideas, no doing the impossible, not even the combined minds of Urahara Kisuke and himself had been able to think of was absolutely positively perfect. And that was what was killing him.

After today, he would no longer be a scientist. It was his life's work, his pride, his job. It was what he was.

He turned back toward his lab that was soon to become a storage shed. Nemu looked at him with a slightly lost expression. She had been created to be a scientist. It was practically in her blood. At last he made a decision. "Nemu, tell the others that they better start running. You can go with them. In fact, I'm ordering you to go. Go and live with that Quincy boy. Those are your orders. Make him happy." "Hai, Mayuri-sama."

He waited until he couldn't see the others from the window. "Goodbye everyone." He turned and went back to his lab. To his surprise, Nemu was there. She stared at him silently. He understood that she couldn't obey his orders. At heart, she was a scientist, same as him. He couldn't begrudge her for that.

"Mayuri-sama, will you please take me with you on your final experiment?" He nodded. He could not deny her something that he himself wanted. At least this way, he wouldn't be alone.

And with that thought, he pressed the remote that had been hidden up his sleeve. That day, they were both put out of their misery.
