Sighing, Hinata turned off the light. He hastily speed walked to his bed, and without hesitation got under the covers, looking behind him as soon as he could. Not that he was able to see anything, anyways, but it was somewhat comforting to do so.

He silently reminded himself that Komaeda was just in the other room, so it wasn't like he was alone. But this happened every night. It was a little embarrassing, to be honest. Many times he considered casually mentioning maybe getting a nightlight or something small, but he could only imagine Komaeda's response to that. Hahah, my Hinata-kun is scared of the dark? Hinata frowned. No, his boyfriend was in awe of him, and it was great, because then he felt like his job was to protect and help the other boy. So Komaeda couldn't know.

Could he use an excuse? I can't see the floor when I get up in the middle of the night and might trip on something if i don't see the way. No, he kept a pretty clear path from the door to the bed, and such a light wouldn't let him see very much of the floor.

Something stirred. Hinata snapped to attention and looked around nervously. He told himself that he was fine. The neighbour's dog barked. He almost hit the roof. It was getting rather late, but he couldn't do this. He stood up, and raced to the light switch.

He paced down the hallway. Surely his boyfriend wouldn't think THAT lowly of him. Cautiously he reached the other's room. Hinata couldn't see anything in it, it seemed even darker than his own. Without thinking, he turned on the light.

The room lit up, and Komaeda cringed instinctively, blinking at the sudden light, and staring at Hinata expectantly. "What is it, Hinata-kun...?" He mumbled weakly. Before Hinata could reply, the other boy shut his eyes and shivered with discomfort.

Hinata recognized his expression. "Another nightmare?" Komaeda nodded slowly. "It's fine though, I have my Hinata-kun now. See, the darkness always comes before the hope." Komaeda chuckled quietly. "But what bring you here?"

He didn't know really how to answer the question without straight-up saying Oh I'm afraid of the dark. Perhaps planning out ideas at three in the morning wasn't his strong suit.

After attempting to word it differently, it was all and all the same sentence.

"Hahah, my Hinata-kun is afraid of the dark?" Komaeda giggled in response. Hinata shut his eyes in regret. Fuck.

The other boy narrowed his voice. "...you are welcome to stay in this room with me, of course. If you are fine with my radiating inferiority." Hinata wasn't expecting this. He was waiting for laughter and for him to be made fun of- shit, why would he ever think Komaeda would do that? How long did they need to date for Hinata to be able to trust him already? Of course he would be kind and generous as always. He mentally slapped himself for not realizing.

Hinata climbed into the bed after turning out the lights. He didn't run there as he did before, or peer out into the darkness. He felt protected here. Safe, even. He tried to keep his distance from the white-haired boy as to not make him uncomfortable, but Komaeda snuggled up to him anyways. Hinata grinned at the resting boy, and laid a kiss on his forehead.

"Goodnight, Komaeda."

"Goodnight, Hinata-kun."

There really didn't seem much to be afraid of now. All ideas of being scared sort of hazed out of mind. Again he turned to Komaeda.

Perhaps he was on to something when he said darkness comes before the hope. There certainly was plenty of hope now.

The darkness was over, and Komaeda was his hope.
