A Pokémon Watcher is like a naturalist.
She is one with the environment, part of it.
She never does anything to disrupt the ecosystem.
And she always respects all her study subjects.
The Watcher walked through Viridian Forest, intent on finding what she came to look for. She was moving as quietly as possible, keeping in mind every detail of her surroundings.
However, her test subject, in spite of its commonality, didn't seem to want to come out into the open. She knew that she needed a little help from her assistants. So a moment later, she tossed a Poké Ball into the air, and out came a Luxray, a Pokémon with excellent vision.
She instructs it to seek out the forest for any Pidgey that might be nearby. The Pokémon obeys her command, and scans the forest with its x-ray-like vision, seeking out its target, until it finally spots a little Pidgey walking on the ground, apparently scrounging for fallen seeds to eat.
The Watcher slowly comes nearer to the Pidgey, keeping downwind of its scent. She observes as the Tiny Bird Pokémon struts around, basking in the warm temperature of the day. The warmth didn't surprise her that much, because, while it hasn't been proven (or disproven) to this day, the Sand Attack, the most favored Move of a Pidgey, is a strong clue to a possible origin in the desert. Pidgey feathers are handsome, but not very thick, and the bird doesn't thrive well in cold climates, even in the Kanto Region.
The Watcher started taking notes about some of the Pokémon's behavior, like how this particular one didn't like coming out to hunt for food when people were about, as well as the fact that the Pidgey wasn't so picky about the presence of certain other Pokémon. A Sandshrew passed through the area, chasing a Rattata, and a flock of Spearow flew overhead (luckily they didn't notice the Watcher), but the Pidgey took little notice.
Then, another couple of Pidgey suddenly joined the one she was observing. They had caught a couple of Caterpie and were evidently allowing the first Pidgey to eat it with them, leading the Watcher to surmise that Pidgey are cooperative creatures and are willing to share their food. But they tore apart the Bug Pokémon rather voraciously, showing that Pidgey can be aggressive sometimes when feeding together. This was an unusual trait for bird Pokémon who so favored peace over conflict. She took note of this anomaly, too.
Finally, she whips out a sketchbook and draws a picture of the feeding Pidgey to prove that she had actually seen it. She merely sketches the outlines for now, she will have time to color it a little while later, when time isn't of the essence. She had a photographic memory of the shape and colors of most Pokémon.
Just then, a kid who is evidently a Pokémon Trainer, walks into the clearing and tosses a Poké Ball, clearly intending to catch one of the Pidgey. Silently cursing the kid for interrupting her Pokémon Watching, she reluctantly watched as two of the Pidgey ran away, while the other, the first one the Watcher had noticed, by coincidence, was caught by the Trainer with the help of his Pichu. The Trainer soon cheered over catching a Pidgey, and walked away, continuing his Pokémon journey.
The Watcher was displeased, of course, that such a wonderful wild Pokémon had been taken while she was right in the middle of studying it, but then she decided that Trainers do have every right to capture Pokémon. After all, it was part of the job. Besides, she got everything she needed from this Watching session (just barely). She packed up her stuff, recalled Luxray, and was on her way.
