"Em, what are you doing?"
"Making the bed. What's it look like I'm doing?" Emmalin snapped, stress making it come out harsher than she'd intended. She smiled apologetically at her husband. "Grab a corner? My parents will be here soon and I still need to vacuum. And do the dishes and fold the towels and finish dusting..."
Jeremy chuckled as he tucked an edge of the sheet under the mattress. "What happened to the girl who wasn't going to get all freaked out when her mother came to visit?"
"You must be thinking of someone else." Emmalin said absentmindedly as she smoothed down the comforter one last time before stepping back to examine her handiwork.
"No, I clearly remember getting an email from you about your mother 'getting all weird' just before a visit from your grandmother. And how you swore that would never be you."
Jeremy ducked as a pillow came flying his way. He started laughing...so hard that he didn't see the second one coming at him. Emmalin's aim was true and it hit him square in the face.
"Don't laugh. Everything has to be perfect when they get here."
Jeremy walked around the bed and cupped his wife's face in his hands.
"Believe it or not your mom's been a newlywed before. She'll understand. She knows we have other things on our minds than cleaning the house till it shines."
"But that's exactly why it has to Jeremy. I don't want her thinking we spend all of our free time in bed."
Jeremy leaned down and started placing light, teasing kisses down the line of her neck. "Even if it's true?"
"Especially..." Emmalin gasped when Jeremy reached an especially sensitive spot. "Especially if it's true. Jeremy..."
Jeremy captured her lips with his before she could say anything else.
She didn't end up getting to the vacuuming before her parents arrived.
