A/N: Inspired by, what else? Frost left by shadows in the morning sunlight. I woke up one day and saw that there was a thin layer of frost across a patch of grass covered by the shadow of a bigger tree. It didn't look much poetic, but I marveled at the awesome symbolism to Naruto that struck me all of a sudden.

Like my other poems, this is free verse. Rhyming is too troublesome. Extended metaphor FTW. :)

Frost Left by Shadow in the Morning Sunlight

I rose up from the lonely night,
Shining bright in the sky.
Mist let way for my brilliant rays,
I was fire, a roaring ball of flame.

Light fell upon those many others
On the ground; they looked up to me.
I guided grasses and trees to grow, to live;
I showed men the direction, the way.

In the early morning light, I smiled
To the beautiful cherry blossom tree
And that stoic scarecrow on the field—
They were my friends; I was not alone.

Then, I saw a barren field,
Of things long dead, never to grow.
Far across others: a deadened plain,
Once of prosperity and joy.

Now there stood but a withered tree.
Its shadow casted over two green.
One, brown and lifeless, too late to be saved,
With another's life close to the end.

But, alas, frost covered the living seed,
Deprived of warmth and sunlight.
The withered tree, it was mad and persistent,
And its shadow wouldn't leave.

My friends could not reach him,
That poor living seed
Too far gone from the rest of us,
Guarded by the mad old tree.

I see you, growing up, bearing few leaves,
Lonely, like how I once was. Lonely without your brother.
But I have friends, like that wise old dolphin,
Who showed me what could be.

See my light, follow my guides,
I will save the living seed with
Light that slipped through the old tree,
Light that shall reach you.

I strive hard to burn brightly
So maybe, you will be able to see me
And grow tall over the mad old tree, grow tall above,
Where you can shine.

One day, you will see light, break through the ice,
And I shall melt that frost, left by the shadow,
And through it will you grow over the withered tree,
Basking in the morning sunlight.

A/N: Can you tell who is Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, Madara, or Itachi? :)
