Being blind wasn't easy. Anyone with bad eyesight would tell you that much. But being literally blind, unable to see a damned thing but darkness twenty four seven really screwed with you sometimes. This, Fox Alistair knew well. The first time he had met his partner two years ago he'd damn near actually run into her...and still managed to get a branch to the face from a nearby tree.
It also made it a little awkward when half of your team was female. The first time he had accidentally walked in when Coco and Velvet were getting ready was one he'd rather forget. He'd forgotten a braille textbook he needed to study and didn't even think about it. Velvet had started to freak out and was a stammering mess, but Coco took it much better, literally saying 'He's blind, I don't give a shit'. To be fair, it was pretty early in the morning and Coco didn't care about much until after her third cup of coffee. He was just as embarrassed as the Faunus had been, honestly.
It took a while but he memorized the route to each of his classes and to the dorm room from anywhere on campus, and the rest of his team had adjusted rather easily to his disability. The one thing that bugged him more than anything though was something that most bind people went through. A condition called non-24 that royally screwed up his sleep schedule a lot.
Even with the help of timers and alarms that alerted him to what time it actually was, his body really didn't care and sometimes it led to some pretty delicate situations. Such as the time he fell asleep in the middle of Doctor Oobleck's class. That hadn't been fun. The man proceeded to make Fox write a five page paper on the benefits of learning from history, making him stay after class to do so. He'd gotten about three pages in before blacking out again. After some convincing and a doctor's note about the disorder Oobleck had apologized, but the blow to his pride had already been dealt. That, and he learned to fall asleep with his eyes open and sitting straight up with his face propped up on a fist so no one could tell the difference. That, and the fact he took notes on an audio recorder, was the only reason he passed Port's class first semester.
Falling asleep during the day wasn't the only annoying part. The waking up in the middle of the night was what really frustrated him. Two o clock in the morning and you're wide awake, everyone else is asleep, and you can't get back to sleep. Not fun. Especially when your team leader threatens you that if you wake her up one more time whining about being bored she'd smash your skull in with a purse. Ouch. Yatsu and Velvet were more understanding, but he didn't want to push his luck there either. Many a sleepless night he'd escape out the window and up onto the roof, only to quickly get back down when he realized if he fell asleep there he'd probably fall off and die. Sigh. No, being blind was far from easy.
