Inspired by the wonderful news that surfaced very, very recently regarding one of my absolute favorite classics. I do not own Harper Lee's wonderful book(s) nor Soul Eater. Also posted on my tumblr.

Soul nearly fell off the couch at the sound of Maka's ear-piercing squeal blasting through the apartment. Baffled and a little concerned, he peeked over the back of the couch and into the kitchen at his meister. She was bouncing around the table, smartphone in hand and eyes alight with excitement.

"What the hell is up with you?" Soul griped in annoyance after seeing that she was apparently unharmed.

She spun around to face him, her elation enough to distract her from his attitude thus sparing him from a Maka Chop. She grinned, "It's Harper Lee!"

He squints at her, "Okay… So what about her?"

Maka pouted at his lack of enthusiasm and ignorance of the literary legend, "She wrote To Kill a Mockingbird , and she hasn't written a book in over fifty years! This is huge!"

"Whatever you say, bookworm," Soul raised his hands in a placating gesture, "It's not like it's already out is it?" He prayed to any deity listening that it wasn't; it was pouring buckets outside and he didn't feel like getting dragged to the nearest bookstore, one which was half way across the damn city.

"No," Maka settled down a bit, looking down at her phone to read more, "Go Set a Watchman comes out in July."

"Weird name."

"You said that about the other one too," she sniffed in response before she continued to poke at the screen of her phone. "There! Pre-ordered!"

And by pre-ordered, she meant texted the owner of the aforementioned bookstore and begged him to hold a copy for her. The man could hardly have denied the meister of the Last Death Scythe and more importantly his best customer such an adamant request.

Soul settled back onto the couch to continue his interrupted gaming session as Maka ducked into her room. Five minutes later, she skipped back out and took a seat next to him, her well-loved copy of To Kill a Mockingbird opening to page one.
