It Won't Take Away My Love

Everything I know, and anywhere I do

It gets hard but it won't take away my love

And when the last one falls

When it's all said and done

Its gets hard but it wont take away my love.

I'm here without you baby

But you're still on my lonely mind

I think about you baby,

And I dream about you all the time.

I'm here without you baby,

But you're still with me in my dreams

And tonight, girl, its only you and me.

He snuck quietly out of the castle. He had warned her of what was about to come. He knew she would endure the horrors of war because she had to, but he wouldn't wish anything like what she would see, on his worst enemy.

That night they had made love so gently, so passionately, to create a perfect memory to sustain them through the coming darkness. He knew it had felt like a goodbye, but he had to leave.

He had sworn that he would come back to her, promised as best he could, without making a vow, but he was doubtful that he would survive. So he promised her love, a love that would always be with her, that nothing, not even death could take away.

Life would be difficult without her, but it was a life he had to lead until the war was over, and the last Death Eater was captured or dead. It would be a lonely life too. He would only be able to trust himself and her heart. Thank the gods that he carried her in his dreams. There they would always be together.

She felt him leave her embrace. Her eyes opened to see his dark form dressing, and then slipping out the door. Her heart went with him. She rose as well, and donned a dressing gown. She entered the hallway and followed him at a discreet distance, until he reached the castle doors. She called to him softly, knowing his keen ears would hear her easily in the silence.

Her voice echoed gently against the stonewalls, before caressing his ears. He turned quickly to see her approaching him through the darkness. She was bright next to his own shadow-like appearance. She was the candle and he the moth to her flame.

"Severus." His name fell from her lips like honey.

"Hermione, go back to bed. Get some sleep while you can." He chided gently. She just shook her head.

"You know I can't sleep very well without you. You know I worry about you. I can't help it. I love you."

"I know. I love you too. We'll get through this. I promised you I would be with you always. I don't break my promises. I learned long ago, broken promises come with too high a price."

"I know." She wrapped her arms around his waist, holding as tight as she could. He returned her embrace, pressing gentle kisses to the top of her head.

"I must go now." He eased away, pressing one last kiss to her lips before vanishing into the night. It would be lonely for both of them until the war was over and they could openly be together, until then, they could dream.
