Disclaimer: I do not own Sherlock Holmes or any related characters. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's descendants do. If I did I would certainly not have tried to kill him off. :-)

The Case of the Prodical Son

Prologue

Over the years I have shared many an adventure with my good friend Sherlock Holmes, the worlds only Consulting Detective. Indeed it was through him that I met my dearest Mary, who has departed this world long before her time.

In all the time of our partnership together, there were view cases that had such a deep and personal effect on me as the kidnapping of the duke of Kent. I entered upon this case oblivious of the disastrous effects it would have on me and those I loved. I was close to not only loosing my reputation, but also my sanity.

My childhood was not always a happy one and there were many headships that had plagued our poor family. Over the years I had tried to suppress these memories and sought to escape them first through the army and later through my friendship with Holmes. I never talked about my family except when I was directly confronted, as I was with Holmes's deductions concerning my brother's old pocket watch. In my time it was considered rude to intrude ones feelings on somebody else.

Over the years I have found, that by recording traumatic events, a patience can learn to come to terms with what has been plaguing him, which had been my objective in writing this account. Many years these papers have sat locked away, their color slowly turning from white to yellow. Now that I am an old man and about to depart this life I feel it is my obligation to free myself of this burden, so that I can enter heaven with a clean conscience. May the scandal come, it is of no consequence to me anymore.

However for the reader to properly understand this tale, I should start at the beginning...

AN: This is my first real venture into the Sherlock Holmes fandom. Until now I was content to read the wonderful works that others have written, but my muse would not stop pestering me and I finally consented. I honestly have no idea where this is going, I trust my muse to lead the way. :-).

I apologize for the short first chapter and will try to upload the next chapter as soon as possible.
