"Recognized: Robin, B-0-1"

At this announcement of his friends arrival, Kid Flash looked up from the television screen, for the first time in hours, to see the Boy Wonder himself stroll into the kitchen/living room area.

"Hey." Robin greeted quietly with a small, forced smile.

"Hey, Rob." the speedster replied from his sprawled position on the floor - the same apprehensiveness permeating his words.

An awkward silence fell upon the two. At a loss of what else to do, Batman's protege made his way into the kitchen - promptly moving to make hot chocolate. It was something his mother always used to do when she was under stress.

Fifteen minutes later, Dick departed the kitchen carrying two scalding cups of hot chocolate, hesitating slightly before taking a seat on the plush carpet beside his redheaded best friend.

"Thanks." Kid Flash said as he took an absentminded gulp of the scorching liquid.

After another lengthy moment of uncomfortable quietude, the acrobat abruptly broke the silence.

"So we're cool, right?" Robin questioned nervously.

Wally perked up at this, beaming at the Boy Wonder. "Always, dude."

Relief flowed through the teens, and for a moment all the pair did was smile goofily at one another.

Sobering up, Dick added, "but seriously, KF - Our friendship means the world to me."

Wally winced, despite himself. "Our...friendship means a lot to me, too."

Kid Flash frowned down at his cup of hot chocolate, watching the steam billow off of it with interest. The cup began to rattle against it's saucer due to the anxious vibration emanating from the redhead's palms.

Suddenly, small, pale hands clasped themselves against the back of his own - stilling Wally's hands and the porcelain cup. Wally hoped Robin couldn't hear his heartbeat stop entirely, before returning with a renewed, frantic vigor.

Robin's expression grew concerned - tender. "Are you sure we're alright? You don't look to hot."

"And here I thought the question was if I was 'cool'. I'm so confused." KF delivered with a theatricality innate to the speedster; though, a quavering, manic edge laced his words.

The acrobat snickered; either unaware of or, more likely, ignoring the speedster's peculiar behavior. "Bad pun, KF. Bad pun."

After a moment of tranquil silence, Robin spoke. "I gotta go. I promised Bats I'd be back in half an hour and you know how scary he gets when I don't follow the rules."

"Kay. Later, Rob." Wally's animated countenance faltered as he watched the Boy Wonder's retreating form.

Why can't I be happy with just "friendship"? Why do I have to want more?

Wally sighed deeply, running his hands through his hair in frustration as soft, glittering flakes of snow fell outside the window adjacent to him.

So much more...
