I'm trying out tragedies!

After several days, Meredy was still crying. Jellal had tried comforting her, but comforting someone wasn't one of the better parts of him.

"Meredy? Don't cry... Ultear did it to save everyone," Jellal softly said.

Out of the blue, Meredy leaned over and hugged him. "I- I know, but..." Meredy choked on her tears.

Jellal, unsure what to do, patted her head and hugged her back. "It's ok... Shhh... Don't cry..."

After a silence, the girl's breathing slowed and her eyes shut. Jellal placed her under a blanket and let her sleep. After a while, he fell asleep as well.

In the middle of the night, Meredy woke up due to a nightmare. She was sweating and crying. Ultear had made an appearance in her dreams. Every single memory of her was etched into the nightmare.

"Why? Why did you have to leave me?" she whispered.

She reached into under her pillow and pulled out a blank piece of paper. She found a pen in Jellal's supply backpack. Then, she began writing a letter to Ultear.

Dear Ultear,

I miss you. Why did you have to leave me? After everything we went through! The deaths, the pain, everything! I wish you were here with me. I miss you a lot. I remember when you first found me. I clung onto you, like you were a lifesaver, which you were. You were so kind and so powerful! I wanted to be just like you! And I still do. I can you hear you scolding me, warning me that becoming you is a bad choice. But it isn't. To be strong and to realize your mistakes. Ultear, I don't think you have to be a part of the guild anymore. You finished all your atoning. You sacrificed yourself for the greater good. Again, I can hear you scolding me, but it's true.

I wish you were here. Jellal... he's been taking care of me and he's handling your death a lot better than I have. I... have been crying a lot. When you died, I felt like my world lost something important. Even though Jellal won't say it out loud, he feels the same. I'm running out of things to say. I'm not angry at you, I'm just sad. There's a lot of things I would like to say, but I don't know how. You're not here and you would have to be here to understand.

Don't worry, I'll keep my promises to you: to never fall to darkness again and the one regarding Jellal and Erza.

Love you, Meredy

After Meredy finished her letter, she felt slightly better. A lot of the sadness in her was gone, but the pain of losing her adoptive mother still hurt. She sighed and returned to bed.

Jellal shot up, after he knew Meredy was dead asleep. He had heard her writing the letter and mumbling the written words. He crawled out his blanket and silently stepped over to the letter. He opened the folded piece of paper and read it. After reading it, he was more understanding and confused. What promise? He decided to write to Ultear as well.

Dear Ultear,

Like Meredy, I miss you. We're is still continuing our usual life, although it isn't the same without you. You left a lot of questions for us.

1. How did you know that old woman?

2. Where is your body? I would've liked to give you a proper burial.

3. WHAT PROMISE DID YOU AND MEREDY MAKE, REGARDING ME?!

- Jellal

Jellal softly sighed. He could hear Ultear laughing at him from heaven.

I can't do tragedies... My twisted humor is still somewhere in there. Thanks for reading!
