(A/N) Hay Everyone!! Let me introduce myself, my fanfiction name is Frost922. I am 12/13 years old and I LUV, I POSITIVELY LUV to write!!! Just to let you know, I am a totally random person. I was watching a horse cartoon, thnx to my sisters, and I got this idea for a horse story. I tried writing it and it was as if the words were on my fingertips and I kept on writing and writing, and after I went back and read what I wrote, I was surprised to find out that I liked it! I sended Chapter 1: Be the Wind to my friend smiliechicken, she liked it and she edited it a little bit. I now have posted this on fanfiction. PLEASE REVIEW!! I will give out virtual cookies to everyone who reviews!!! I want at least 5 or more reviews if you want Chapter 2. Oh and I almost forgot!! If you havn't already, read the book Twilight!! It is AWESOME!!! Sorry about my little rant! Now, onward to the story.

Chapter 1: "Be the wind."

The wind in my hair, the crowed screaming my name, and the fact that Shadow and I were going to win, made me go even faster. Those thoughts were the only things I was concerned about.

"C'mon Shadow, you can do this! I believe in you! We're going to win this! Run like the wind!" I whispered in Shadow's ear. I could feel it in every fiber of my being; we were going to win! We jumped and raced around the barrels. Basically we were the wind. We were so close to the finish line, but I could see our opponent catching up fast. We were neck to neck, but guess who crossed the finish line a second earlier? Easy question. Shadow and I. There are no words to describe how I felt at the moment. That feeling was so great, that it had me jumping in my saddle.

"And it looks like first place goes to Farah and Shadow, second place Zelda and Freedom, and third place Halter and Tucker!" The announcer bellowed for all to hear. Slowly I changed Shadow to a trot, got off his back and took him to the horses water fountain.

"I am so proud of you, boy! You did really good! You deserve a long rest, nice bath, and some carrots!" I murmured in Shadows ear as I stroked his mane, lovingly. Just then a middle aged woman came up to me absolutely beaming.

"Hi! I just wanted to congratulate you. I think they will do the award ceremony in a little bit after the horses get a much deserved rest. I'll see you around." she turned to walk away just as I mumbled a quick word of thanks.

Shadow just whinnied in consent and nudged his head against my shoulder.

"C'mon Shadow, time for a bath." I said. Want to guess my response? A whine.

The trophy we won was huge! By huge, I mean HUGE trophy. I was instantly swarmed by my family and they placed a #1 ribbon on Shadow's mane. I smiled at Shadow, and then, right there, my whole world broke apart. Shadow let a shrill whine as if he were in pain and collapsed on to the floor. I felt as if the wind had been knocked out of me. I ran over to my horse my shadow, panic stricken. This had to be serious.
